Position Summary The Director of Children's and Youth Ministries will provide ministry to the church's children and youth and outreach ministry to children and youth in the community. This ministry aims to help children and youth thrive in their lives and faith. While teaching them about God's unconditional love and grace, the ministry will seek to enhance their whole lives so they can discover shalom, peace/wholeness. The Director will work alongside the Education Committee and under the direction and supervision of the senior pastor. Responsibilities Design and implement a broad-based ministry to children and youth of the church and community during the school year. This ministry should include weekly Sunday school, children's church during the 10:45 am worship service, and a youth ministry gathering, in addition to other school year activities. In coordination with the Senior Pastor, provide children's moments at the 10:45 am worship service throughout the year. Coordinate with, and as much as possible, be on site to assist with outside groups working with children and youth, such as Scouts, Maroon Resonance, and I Can Read. Regularly inventory supplies for children's and youth ministry, ordering supplies and curriculum as needed. Implement summer ministries for children and youth, which may include Vacation Bible School, day camps, mission trips, and other opportunities. Explore and encourage opportunities to engage in connectional partnerships with other area United Methodist congregations, ecumenical partnerships with other downtown churches, and with Little Grassy Camp. Attend one event (concert, game, recital, performance, etc.) of every child and youth of the church on an annual basis. Plan an event for children, youth, and their families at least six times a year. Such events may include Trunk or Treat, a Christmas carol sing, family movie nights, back-to-school event, or other activities. Coordinate with the senior pastor to develop podcasts and videos to support Christian formation among children, youth, and their families. Identify, train, equip, and support a network of staff/volunteers who work alongside the Director to implement various ministries. Attend meetings of the education committee and church council (voice, but no vote); attend ministry staff and full staff meetings. Other duties may be assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Hours of Work:

Part-Time (20-25 hours), which includes some night and weekend hours.

Exempt Qualifications:

A degree in education or children's/youth ministry OR equivalent experience; an understanding of and willingness to teach United Methodist theology.

Area of Responsibility:

Development and oversight of the ministries to children and youth of the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale and the surrounding community.

Pay:

$29,000.00 - $31,000.00 per year
