Job Description

Minister of MusicHelp us lead a growing church into its next season of worship and ministry. Position SummaryThe Minister of Music will provide spiritual, musical, and organizational leadership for the worship ministry of Higher Ground Baptist Church. Working closely with the Senior Pastor, this individual will develop and lead Christ-centered, biblically faithful, and spiritually engaging worship services that support the church's mission and vision. The ideal candidate will be a worshiper before a performer and a team leader who is passionate about developing others and encouraging congregational participation. Primary Responsibilities Plan and lead worship services in cooperation with the Senior Pastor. Select biblically sound music that complements the message and direction of each service. Maintain a thoughtful blend of hymns, Southern Gospel, choir music, and current worship songs. Direct, strengthen, and grow the adult choir through organized rehearsals, spiritual encouragement, and varied musical selections. Recruit, train, schedule, and support vocalists, musicians, praise teams, and worship volunteers. Create opportunities for teenagers and young adults to participate in the music ministry. Prepare worship orders, music, schedules, and service details in advance. Coordinate rehearsals, sound checks, platform participation, and service transitions. Work closely with the sound, lighting, media, livestream, and presentation teams. Support special services, holidays, revivals, funerals, outreach efforts, and other church-wide events. Build genuine relationships with members of the worship ministry and remain actively involved in the life of Higher Ground Baptist Church. Desired Qualifications A clear testimony of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and a growing personal relationship with Him. A life characterized by biblical integrity, humility, dependability, and spiritual maturity. Agreement with and support for the doctrine, mission, values, and leadership of Higher Ground Baptist Church. Strong vocal and worship-leading abilities. Experience directing a choir and leading musicians. Knowledge of traditional, Southern Gospel, and contemporary worship music. Ability to teach vocal parts and communicate musical direction clearly. Strong organizational, administrative, interpersonal, and planning skills. Experience with Planning Center, presentation software, tracks, and related worship technology. Ability to lead volunteers with patience, encouragement, accountability, and a team-centered approach. Willingness to receive direction and constructive feedback with humility.
