A Religious Leader or Professional leads religious services and provides spiritual guidance or counseling. Presents knowledge and interpretation of theological texts. May work in a non-denominational setting like a prison or hospital, or work for specific faith-based congregation or denomination and follow the practices of that faith.
The Executive Pastor would see that the vision and policies of the leadership are coordinated and carried out throughout the life of the Church. In addition to specific ministry areas, the Executive Pastor is responsible for the overall administration of church programs and personnel, providing coordination of goals, methods, and resources. The Executive Pastor will report to the Senior Pastor. The Executive Pastor is also on the Elder Board and will participate in Elder meetings. This position requires that the individual have the highest moral, ethical, and spiritual values that align with the responsibilities of a Church Elder (1 Timothy 3, Titus 1). It also requires good verbal and written communication, personnel management, strategic planning, and project management skills. This individual must be a self-starter, take initiative to accomplish the vision and direction of the Senior Pastor and Elder Board, and be able to efficiently oversee multiple initiatives. The Executive Pastor provides high-level leadership in strategic planning, staff development, financial stewardship, facilities management, and ministry execution so that the Senior Pastor can focus on preaching, teaching, and visionary leadership.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To the
Pastoral Staff:
To provide direction, support, and feedback by having regular meetings with staff. To assist in the development of ministry objectives and goals. Provide oversight of budget development and management. Work with Pastors, ministry directors, and elders to develop a comprehensive annual budget. Each department lead will also provide direction on budget needs. Provide leadership for long-range planning. Conduct annual performance reviews of all Pastoral and general office staff. Provide annual summary review with the Senior Pastor. Staff development, coaching and accountability: Develop individual training plans for pastors and staff members. Enhance the effectiveness of ministry and the overall work of the church through Team development of staff and volunteers. Encourage a continuous learning environment for staff to grow in leadership skills, relationships, ministry effectiveness, and outworking of spiritual gifting. Visible leadership at weekend services.
Ministry Oversight:
Missions Community Outreach Assimilation Adult Ministries/Education Small Groups Prayer General Administration:
Oversee, assist, and coordinate various ministry teams under your responsibility. Facilitate coordination of ALL ministries, promoting teaming and unity. Oversee the General Office, Finance, and Facilities Staff, both paid and volunteer. Develop and oversee small-group ministries and adult education: schedule, topics/curricula, vetting/qualification of teachers, etc. Develop teambuilding and leadership training classes/activities. Make appropriate changes to Policy and Procedures Manual and Employee s Handbook. Advising and providing resources for other Pastoral Staff and Ministry Leaders in management functions. Aide in the church s building programs including master planning, design and architecture, contractor selection, construction, technology, and financing.
Risk management:
Facilitate compliance and direction on legal, security, and safety concerns and responsibilities. Assist the
Senior Pastor:
In ministry functions in the absence of Pastoral Staff members. Advising in areas of established church policy and procedures. Strategic planning. Working with the Elders and Deacons. Preaching/teaching occasionally. Pastoral care, weddings, funerals, hospital visitation. Technical and Personal Skills Planning Center or church management software Microsoft Office tools like Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or online tools like Canva Ability to handle conflict resolution, adapt to change in both the church and community while maintaining a biblically centered mindset/focus
Executive Pastor Requirements:
Spiritually mature with an evident relationship with Jesus Christ. Prefer a Master of Divinity degree or equivalent experience. 5+ years of relevant ministry experience. Demonstrated leadership skills as outlined in the Bible. Outstanding organizational skills. Strong people skills. Team player. Able to oversee a broad portfolio of initiatives/projects
