Residence Life Desk Assistant- Student Worker Iowa Western Community College - 3.8 Council Bluffs, IA Job Details $12 an hour 19 hours ago Qualifications In-person customer service Employee relationship building Full Job Description Description The Desk Assistant (DA) position is a key student leader within the residence halls of Iowa Western Community College. DAs are community role models and friends to all residents. It is important to understand the unique nature of working and living within a residence hall as it requires skills such as customer service. Job Duties Actively maintain good working relationships with teammates and Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs) with a focus on leadership, mentoring, fostering community pride, and communicating community needs to RLCs Positively impact residents on a daily basis by focusing on interpersonal relationships and actively strive to spend significant time with students than spent privately, outside the halls, or exclusively with staff members Complete monthly bulletin boards and programming requirements with a focus on community needs, student interests, or topics provided by RLCs Consistently contribute to the team by respecting staff, sharing responsibilities such as desk shifts, and maintain open communication with staff Understand, explain, and enforce Housing Rules and Regulations and Student Code of Conduct policies within the residence halls with a focus on respecting the community and fostering a sense of pride and ethical behavior amongst all residents and staff Maintain a secure residence hall by working the front desk. Front desk duties typically include but may not be limited to: answering phone calls, answering questions, giving directions, enforcing guest policies and building entry policies by monitoring people entering and exiting the building, package sign out, game equipment sign out, and reporting facility issues and emergencies to the proper authorities Handle student information with confidentiality and follow all FERPA guidelines Assist with move in, move out, and hall closing tasks at the beginning, breaks, and end of each semester Perform duties as assigned by RLC that assist in maintaining residence halls and relationships with students.
