About the Role The Overnight Student Life Counselor provides direct supervision and support to students during overnight hours while helping maintain a safe, structured, and supportive residential environment. This position is responsible for student supervision, responding to emergencies, reinforcing behavior expectations, supporting morning routines, and serving as a consistent adult presence for students. The Overnight Student Life Counselor also partners with Student Life staff to promote student success and ensure the residence halls operate safely and effectively. Schedule & Work Expectations This is an overnight, student-facing residential position requiring a strong on-site presence. Overnight shifts (Sunday-Friday) Must remain awake and actively supervise students throughout the shift Weekend and holiday coverage may be required based on operational needs Availability during critical student support hours is required Who This Role Is For Individuals passionate about mentoring adolescents Professionals who can remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies Team members who are dependable, accountable, and consistent Individuals who value structure, relationship-building, and student development Key Responsibilities Student Supervision & Safety Supervise students throughout the overnight shift and morning routines. Conduct regular room and residence hall checks. Respond to student emergencies, behavioral incidents, and health concerns. Maintain a safe, secure, and orderly residential environment. Student Support & Development Build positive relationships with students. Support students' emotional, social, and personal development. Reinforce positive behavior and community expectations. Encourage responsibility, independence, and healthy decision-making. Residence Hall Operations Complete nightly logs, incident reports, and required documentation. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety throughout the residence hall. Assist with morning routines, student accountability, and medication distribution as assigned. Follow all Student Life procedures and safety protocols. Collaboration Communicate effectively with Student Life leadership and other school staff. Participate in required meetings and professional development. Support school-wide initiatives and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in social sciences or related field One year of experience working with adolescents. Experience in residential, school, youth development, or counseling settings preferred. Skills & Competencies Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to supervise students and manage behavior effectively. Sound judgment and ability to respond appropriately during emergencies. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, and actively supervise students throughout the shift. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
