POSITION SUMMARY
Good Shepherd is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Parenting Specialist to provide direct care, coaching, supervision, and support to teen parents in a residential program. This position plays a vital role in fostering a safe, therapeutic, and nurturing environment that promotes personal growth, positive parenting practices, independence, and overall well-being. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with youth and families, demonstrates strong judgment and professionalism, and is committed to relationship-based, strength-focused interventions. Parenting Specialists receive training in the evidence-based Nurturing Skills curriculum and provide individualized coaching and support to residents. Key Responsibilities Support and Empower Teen Parents Build trusting, supportive relationships with residents using strength-based and trauma-informed approaches. Identify resident strengths and help leverage them to achieve personal and parenting goals. Utilize active listening, positive reinforcement, and teachable moments to encourage growth and independence. Provide meaningful one-on-one coaching and mentoring. Collaborate with families, referral sources, colleagues, and community partners to support resident success. Maintain Safety, Structure, and Consistency Provide continuous supervision and ensure resident safety at all times. Participate in daily debriefings and review program communications regularly. Follow treatment plans, program schedules, and established procedures. Conduct room checks, safety inspections, and contraband searches as required. Report concerns regarding resident health, safety, or well-being through appropriate channels. Complete all required documentation accurately and timely, including: Progress notes Incident reports Communication logs Room and bed checks Other program-related paperwork Facilitate Program Activities Encourage educational participation and support academic success. Assist with transportation to schools, appointments, and approved activities. Facilitate or co-lead life-skills groups, goal-setting sessions, and daily wrap-up groups. Assist with meal preparation and resident daily living activities. Support residents in completing chores and maintaining a clean living environment. Participate actively in programming and engage residents throughout each shift. Professional Expectations Demonstrate positive role modeling and professional boundaries. Attend staff meetings, supervision sessions, and required training programs. Support agency values and contribute positively to the program culture. Maintain reliability, punctuality, and flexibility in scheduling. Required Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age . High School Diploma or equivalent required. Valid driver's license and ability to transport residents using agency vehicles. Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts. Ability to successfully complete required certifications and trainings. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Child Development, Education, or a related field. Experience working with youth, adolescents, teen parents, or residential treatment programs. Significant relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Required Certifications (Upon Hire) MCCA Medication Administration Certification within 60 days. Protecting God's Children Training within 60 days. First Aid and CPR Certification within 90 days. Safe Crisis Management and crisis intervention training as required.
