Assistant Director Reports to Program Director/Executive Director Credentialing APS completed; CPS-Provisional or higher peer certification Role type Crisis Intervention Staff/Program Operations Leadership Schedule Full-time; flexible schedule and on-site coverage based on program needs Job Purpose and Summary The Assistant Director supports the Program Director and Executive Director in the daily operation of TownHome Health's Residential Crisis Support Center (RCSC), a peer-staffed, trauma-informed residential program that serves as a short-term alternative to psychiatric hospitalization for individuals experiencing a mental health and/or emotional crisis. The Assistant Director combines peer-support and crisis-intervention expertise with day-to-day operational leadership. The role helps supervise and develop Peer Specialists and Senior Peer Specialists, coordinate staff coverage and program workflow, oversee documentation and compliance expectations, support guest intake and continuity of services, and ensure that safety, incident, and operational concerns are identified and escalated appropriately. The Assistant Director also provides direct guest support when needed, including peer support, crisis and safety planning, service planning, care coordination, medication management and training, psychiatric crisis rehabilitation, and skills training consistent with program policy and scope of practice. Essential Job Functions
  • Support the Program Director and Executive Director in the daily operation of the RCSC and in maintaining consistent, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and guest-centered services.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and operational guidance to Senior Peer Specialists, Peer Specialists, and other assigned crisis-intervention staff.
  • Coordinate staffing schedules, shift coverage, call-outs, handoffs, and related coverage needs to support 24/7 program operations.
  • Assist with staff onboarding, orientation, training, ongoing development, and performance feedback; reinforce professional, ethical, and program standards.
  • Support peer staff in applying trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, client-centered, and intentional peer-support practices.
  • Provide direct peer support and assist with crisis and safety planning, service planning, care coordination, medication management and training, psychiatric crisis rehabilitation, and skills training consistent with program policy and scope of practice.
  • Oversee and support pre-registration, registration, intake, orientation, transition, and discharge-related workflows to promote timely and consistent guest access and continuity of care.
  • Monitor daily program workflow, guest needs, staffing needs, and operational priorities and communicate significant issues to program leadership.
  • Promote a safe, comfortable, secure, non-judgmental, and trusting residential environment where guests are listened to and respected.
  • Respond to and appropriately escalate guest safety concerns, incidents, significant changes in guest presentation, staffing concerns, facility issues, or other operational and compliance matters.
  • Support implementation of crisis response, safety procedures, incident reporting, and follow-up actions in accordance with program policy.
  • Monitor documentation for timeliness, completeness, and compliance with program standards; coach staff on documentation expectations and address gaps with program leadership.
  • Support internal quality, compliance, and operational reviews and help ensure assigned staff complete mandated trainings and required documentation.
  • Facilitate or support individual- and group-based recovery, wellness, educational, and skill-building opportunities when needed.
  • Coordinate and maintain effective relationships with mental health providers, treatment providers, health care services, community resources, and other partners that support guest needs.
  • Support guests and staff in addressing barriers to care, appointments, transportation, communication, and access to community-based resources.
  • Help ensure household operations, supplies, shared spaces, and daily routines support a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
  • Meet regularly with the Program Director and/or Executive Director and participate in leadership, supervision, staff, and other required meetings.
  • Provide flexible coverage and leadership support during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays when program needs require.
  • Respond adaptively and remain focused in a rapidly changing programmatic, electronic, staffing, and compliance environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Academy of Peer Services (APS) training.
  • Certified Peer Specialist credential at the provisional level or higher.
  • Approximately two to three years of relevant behavioral health and/or peer-support experience and training; experience in crisis, residential, care coordination, case management, or a comparable setting is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, organize, and support staff in a 24/7 service environment.
  • Strong judgment, communication, documentation, and organizational skills, including the ability to identify concerns and escalate them appropriately.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with guests, peer staff, clinical leadership, community partners, and other stakeholders while maintaining professional and ethical standards.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to the assigned work location within approximately one hour under normal commuting conditions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and provide on-site leadership coverage based on program needs.
