Non-Exempt General Description The Academic Success Coordinator position supports the Mission and Values of Hope Ignites (formerly Boys Hope Girls Hope) with particular emphasis on the academic success and community involvement of scholars. Members are part of a team of volunteers and professionals and are expected to execute their responsibilities in a professional manner, acting at all times as a positive adult mentor and role model to the scholars in accordance with all Hope Ignites (formerly Boys Hope Girls Hope) program policies and standards. Hope Ignites New Orleans (formerly Boys Hope Girls Hope New Orleans) partners with the Notre Dame Mission Volunteers for the AmeriCorps placement of the ASC into our two homes.

Duties include:

I Instructional Support a. With staff, monitor academic progress and needs of scholars. b. Communicate with tutors any specific information regarding the scholar's academic needs, including providing written direction based on the scholar's weekly assignments or in response to directives from teachers. c. Provide individual tutoring and academic assistance to scholars. d. Develop and monitor academic improvement plans for scholars and academic goals for service plans. e. Implement or develop intellectually enriching activities in the home. f. Assist with planning and execution of college preparation activities like campus visits and the application process. II. School presence/Collaboration a. Maintain regular contact with teachers. b. Attend school meetings and progress sessions. c. Participate in parent organizations or academically oriented extracurricular activities (e.g., science fairs) III. Intellectual Enrichment a. Identify, track, and promote age-appropriate essential experiences like community service activities to supplement school-based learning b. Plan, coordinate, and participate in community service opportunities for individual scholars and groups of scholars. c. Maintain and role model for scholars, positive relations with neighbors, community groups, schools, authorities, peers, and parents of scholars. d. Assist in the implementation of in-home curricula (e.g., life skills training, character development) IV. Training a. Participate in pre-service orientation and mid-year renewal sponsored by the National Office b. Participate in on-site, on-the-job training and monthly member conference calls. c. Complete supplemental reading and instruction as assigned on academic success strategies for scholars. d. With the site supervisor, identify and attend as needed, additional training programs to supplement skills. V. Support Activities a. Complete required documentation of activities in a timely and accurate fashion, including scholar case records. b. Properly track and document all approved expenses. c. Assist staff in caring for scholars in residence, including health, safety, and discipline issues. d. Support the development of scholars in accordance with individual scholar service plans. Critical Criteria Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or a high school diploma with at least two years of experience working with youth in an educational setting. A valid driver's license and current CPR and first aid are also required. The following competencies are important for success:

• Commitment to Higher Education Attainment The position requires the ability to closely monitor the whereabouts and activities of several pre-adolescent and adolescent children in a multi-story home, as well as the ability to safely transport children in program vehicles.

It may also require engaging in athletic, recreational, and/or camping activities with the residents. It will also require certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
