MVA Behavioral Health Services is seeking dedicated and compassionate Peer Recovery Coaches to join our treatment team. The ideal candidate is a person in long-term recovery who is CCAR Certified and passionate about empowering others on their recovery journey. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by offering lived experience, support, and mentorship within a structured, therapeutic environment. Position Description A Recovery Coach provides peer-based support, encouragement, education, advocacy, outreach, and community connection to individuals impacted by substance use disorder and/or mental health challenges. Recovery Coaches utilize recovery principles, personal experience, and evidence-informed approaches to support individuals in identifying personal goals, overcoming barriers, strengthening recovery supports, and building connections within the recovery community. The Recovery Coach promotes hope, empowerment, self-determination, and personal growth while supporting individuals throughout their recovery journey. This position provides strength-based, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented services while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and collaborating with clinical and administrative teams. Recovery Coaches serve as an important part of the treatment and community engagement team by increasing access to services, reducing barriers to care, connecting individuals with resources, providing outreach support, and strengthening relationships between MVA, clients, and community partners.

Peer Recovery Coach Supervisor Job Duties/Responsibilities Client Support and Recovery Services
  • Create and maintain a welcoming, supportive, and recovery-oriented environment for clients, visitors, and staff.
  • Provide client orientation regarding agency operations, rights and responsibilities, available services, emergency procedures, and available supports.
  • Provide recovery-focused support that encourages hope, choice, empowerment, purpose, and personal responsibility.
  • Assist individuals in identifying strengths, recovery goals, barriers, and strategies to support successful outcomes.
  • Build positive relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and ethical standards.
  • Provide strength-based, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered support.
  • Utilize recovery coaching strategies to promote engagement, self-advocacy, and connection to recovery resources.
  • Support individuals experiencing emotional distress or crisis by utilizing recovery principles, agency procedures, and appropriate escalation processes. Outreach & Community Engagement
  • Participate in community outreach activities designed to increase awareness of MVA services, recovery supports, and available resources.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, recovery communities, referral sources, and service providers.
  • Represent MVA in the community through outreach events, recovery activities, resource fairs, educational opportunities, and collaborative meetings as assigned.
  • Provide education and information to community members regarding recovery services, substance use disorder, mental health resources, harm reduction supports, and pathways to treatment.
  • Assist with identifying community needs, barriers to service access, and opportunities to improve engagement with underserved populations.
  • Support efforts to connect individuals who may benefit from services to appropriate MVA programs and community resources.
  • Maintain professional communication and representation of MVA while participating in community-based activities. Resource Coordination & Recovery Connections
  • Connect clients and community members with available resources and support services, including but not limited to: o Recovery community supports o Housing and basic needs resources o Transportation resources o Infectious disease testing and treatment resources o Medication-assisted treatment resources o Employment, education, and community support opportunities
  • Assist individuals in reducing barriers that impact recovery success and service engagement.
  • Encourage participation in recovery communities and development of positive support networks.
  • Assist clients in identifying and practicing recovery tools, coping skills, wellness strategies, and self-advocacy skills. Groups, Documentation & Program Support
  • Facilitate recovery-focused groups, educational sessions, and peer support activities as assigned.
  • Complete accurate, timely, and appropriate documentation according to agency standards, payer requirements, accreditation standards, and supervisor expectations.
  • Participate in team meetings, case discussions, supervision, trainings, and program activities.
  • Communicate relevant client concerns, progress, barriers, and support needs to appropriate members of the treatment team.
  • Assist with transportation support when appropriate and approved by clinical staff, including consideration of client safety and agency procedures.
  • Participate in outreach tracking, community engagement documentation, and program outcome reporting as assigned. Professional Development & Team Engagement
  • Maintain required certifications, trainings, and professional development activities as required by state regulations, accreditation standards, payer requirements, and agency expectations.
  • Participate in regular supervision, coaching, and feedback opportunities to support professional growth and job success.
  • Contribute to a positive workplace culture by demonstrating teamwork, reliability, respect, accountability, and alignment with MVA values.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and provide feedback regarding program needs, client experiences, outreach efforts, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned by the Clinical Director, Program Director, or leadership team.
Physical Demands & Environmental Exposure:
  • Ability to sit at a desk or table for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand and move throughout the work environment as needed.
  • Ability to navigate agency locations, community settings, and outreach locations.
  • This position is classified as moderate risk for exposure to infectious disease.
  • This position may involve exposure to stressful, hostile, or crisis situations.
  • May interact with individuals experiencing behavioral health symptoms, emotional distress, or crisis situations. Physical Requirements
  • May be required to move between office and community locations throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Qualifications & Requirements:
1. High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required. 2. Completion of an approved Peer Recovery Coach training program and/or certification preferred or required within designated timeframe as applicable. 3. Personal recovery experience and/or demonstrated understanding of recovery principles preferred. 4. Experience with community outreach, engagement, peer support, or advocacy preferred. 5. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, acceptable driving record, and proof of current automobile insurance may be required, based on specific assigned program. 6. Ability to establish rapport with individuals while maintaining professional boundaries. 7. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 8. Ability to work independently while also collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team. 9. Comfortable engaging with diverse populations in office, community, and outreach settings. 10. Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic documentation. 11. Previous experience working in substance use disorder, mental health, healthcare, social services, or community support settings preferred. 12. Must successfully complete required background checks at hire and ongoing checks as required by funding sources or regulations. 13. Must successfully complete drug screening requirements as applicable.
