Job Description

The Strickland Place (Skilled Nursing) Life Enrichment Assistant promotes a fun, engaging, and resident centered environment by assisting leading activities and 1:1 programs for residents in skilled care. This role works closely with the Life Enrichment Coordinator in planning and implementing meaningful experiences that enhance residents' physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, and vocational well being. Collaborates with team member across Memory Care and Assisted Living to deliver quality programming, special events, and community outings.
Status Non-Exempt Hours:
Mon-Fri, 9 am - 5 pm; occasional evenings and weekends Job Relationships Reports to the Life Enrichment Manager of Arborview (Memory Care). Works directly alongside Life Enrichment Coordinator of Asbury Place (Assisted Living) Indirect supervision received from the Healthcare Administrator.
Life Enrichment Assistant Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead and facilitate group (small and large) activities Assist with leading 1:1 programs and ideas Assist the Life Enrichment Coordinator with off campus outings and excursions Assist in developing and maintaining monthly activity calendars Support programming efforts in Strickland Place, Arborview, and Asbury Place Assist in communicating and coordinating with volunteers and contracted instructors Help organize, plan, and implement special events and family programs Promote and support a resident centered lifestyle model Assist in delivering comprehensive activities that address residents' physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual and vocational needs Collaborate regularly with the Life Enrichment Coordinator-Strickland Place and Life Enrichment Team to ensure high-quality programming Assist with resident assessments and documentation in a timely manner Secondary Duties and Responsibilities Support nursing staff by applying knowledge and techniques related to aging and resident care Assist residents with personal grooming as needed Assist residents with the dining experience. Observe and report resident conditions, including unusual incidents or significant changes Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming resident environment Maintain organized activity spaces, supply areas, and storage closets Performs any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as-needed basis by an authorized supervisor. Typical Physical Demands Employee must have the ability and knowledge to lift and move residents safely. Must be able to lift 30 lbs. of weight, reach and extend hands and arms in any direction, and seize, hold, grip, turn, or otherwise work with hands. Be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and bend at the waist, reach, grasp, grip, turn, and manipulate objects with hands and arms. Must be able transport residents in a wheelchair between buildings. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to successfully complete the WorkSTEPS Functional Testing program. This program assists in determining whether applicants/employees are able to safely perform essential job functions. Life Enrichment Assistant Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Be able to express verbal ideas and impart information to residents and residents' families. Extensive ability to respond to emergencies rapidly. Work habits should include regular attendance, punctuality, teamwork, initiative, willingness to learn, dependability, and promptness. Must be able to perform mental functions and withstand moderate amounts of stress. Adapt to change easily. Possess basic computer skills in, Microsoft Word (Windows, Outlook, Excel, Publisher). Ability to work weekends and flexible hours. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication and the ability to facilitate group presentations. Enjoys being creative and using ones talent to provide creative ideas for Resident programming. Ability to demonstrate consistently in all interactions with others the warmth, caring, outgoing friendliness, and energy that are the hallmarks of Arbor Acres corporate personality and culture. Bilingual is a plus, but not required. Minimum Education High School Diploma or equivalent education. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred, but not required. Minimum Experience One year experience in activities, recreation, life enrichment or related field preferred. License and/or Certification Required Must have a valid NC drivers licenses with a demonstrated clean driving record and be able to drive a 15 passenger bus.
