POSITION SUMMARY
The Unit Director is the leader of a single Boys & Girls Clubs of Fresno County site accountable for everything that happens there: operations, safety, programs, staff, budget, and the member experience. Reporting to the Director who oversees the site's Club portfolio, the Unit Director runs the Club to organizational and BGCA standards; supervises and develops site staff; delivers quality programming across the BGCA core areas; manages the budget and grant reporting; and builds membership through community partnerships. The Unit Director is the on-site face of the organization, and the person ultimately responsible for a safe, positive, and high-quality Club.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Site Leadership & Club Operations Maintain and operate the Club in accordance with BGCFC and Boys & Girls Clubs of America standards. Communicate the mission, vision, and program objectives to staff, members, families, and the community. Maintain Club hours of operation and establish regular staff work schedules and member program schedules. Uphold organizational policies and procedures and exercise sound judgment on site issues. 2. Program & Service Management Oversee Club programs across the BGCA core areas (Education, Character & Leadership, the Arts, Sports & Fitness, Health & Life Skills, and Social Recreation) to meet Youth Development Outcomes. Ensure programs meet grant requirements as approved by the assigned Director. Coordinate sports, recreation, education, and guidance programs as needed. Nominate an eligible member for the Youth of the Year program each year. 3. Staff Supervision & Development Recruit, screen, train, supervise, and evaluate site staff and volunteers. Provide leadership, direction, problem-solving, and conflict resolution for staff, volunteers, and members. Provide direct supervision and mentoring so staff can carry out the organization's mission. Hold regular Club staff meetings and support staff growth and development. 4. Youth Engagement & Direct Service Provide direct supervision of members ages 6-18. Consult with parents and guardians on member and Clubhouse matters, and exercise authority on member issues. Model positive behavior management and youth-development practices. 5. Safety & Club Climate Establish and maintain a program setting that protects the health and safety of members and staff. Uphold child-safety and supervision standards at all times and fulfill mandated-reporter responsibilities. Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate Club climate. Ensure the safety and upkeep of assigned facilities and Club vehicles. 6. Budget, Administration & Reporting Operate the Club within the approved budget and assist the assigned Director with budget planning and fundraising. Maintain accurate daily and program attendance records in the membership tracking system for administration and grant reports. Ensure timely, accurate documentation and reporting. 7. Marketing, Recruitment & Community Partnerships Promote and recruit membership through word of mouth, flyers, presentations, and outreach to schools, churches, community organizations, and city governance. Maintain monthly membership records and grow Club enrollment. Consult and collaborate with community partners and agencies through grants, special projects, and events. Additional Responsibilities Complete the Management Professional courses on BGCA Spillett University. Attend all staff meetings, required training, and the bi-monthly Unit Director meetings at the Administrative Office. Maintain Club cleanliness, maintenance, and daily operations of assigned facilities and vehicles. Transport members in Club vans as requested, in accordance with Club safety policy; obtain a Class B license if required. Other duties as assigned.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Club membership and average daily attendance. Site safety-compliance performance. Accuracy and timeliness of attendance and grant reporting. Budget adherence. Site staff retention and program quality. Specific annual targets for these areas are set with the assigned Director and reviewed on the organization's standard performance-review cycle.
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal:
Daily contact with the assigned Director, site staff, volunteers, and members for direction, communication, and problem-solving.
External:
Regular contact with parents, schools, community groups, city governance, and partner agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Associate degree and three (3) years of experience working with youth and knowledge of youth development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be at least 21 years old. Ability to motivate youth, manage behavior, communicate with the public, and plan and deliver quality youth programs. Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment. Strong verbal and written communication, group leadership, team-building, and staff / projectmanagement skills.
California / Role
-Specific Requirements Must clear a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting and First Advantage screening) and complete mandated-reporter and child-abuse-prevention training prior to youth contact, consistent with California AB 506. Current CPR / First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain through BGCFC-offered training. Valid California driver's license and clean driving record; willingness to obtain a Class B license. Preferred Experience in education, leadership, recreation, case management, arts & crafts, or technology. Ability to speak languages other than English — bilingual (English / Spanish) a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record; must be able to drive to any Club site and transport youth as required. Must be able to walk, remain on foot for extended periods, and demonstrate physical activities. Must be able to lift and carry materials (binders, boxes, equipment) weighing up to approximately 25 pounds. Work occurs in indoor and outdoor environments with active engagement with youth, and includes occasional driving of Club vehicles. Must pass all required background checks and screenings.
