40 hours of paid sick leave per year; access to free afterschool and out-of-school programs for your child(ren) The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Cruz County is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. We currently serve more than 1,500 youth per year across our three clubhouse locations in Downtown Santa Cruz, Live Oak, and Scotts Valley. The Director of Youth Development is responsible for overseeing the smooth day-to-day delivery of programs within a designated Clubhouse. This is also referred to as "running the floor" while programs are in session. Working in close partnership with the Unit Director and Program Directors, the Director of Youth Development provides planning, logistical support, coordination and effective communication to ensure the successful delivery of a broad range of programs and activities, such as Education, Social Recreation, Creative Arts, and Physical Education. Key Responsibilities Prepare Youth for Success Plan and oversee the administration of designated Clubhouse programs and activities that support Youth Development outcomes: Create a positive, orderly, safe, supportive, and engaging environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes. Lead daily assemblies as needed to communicate program offerings, daily activities, and expectations. Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program areas. Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members. Provide positive behavior intervention, support, and re-direction for youth members, as needed. Program Implementation With the Unit Director and Program Directors, establish and maintain Clubhouse program goals and settings that ensure the health and safety of members. Ensure that site staff understand and effectively communicate standards or program; that they ensure program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit; and that Club equipment is maintained in good working condition. Ensure that there are multiple engaging programs/activities for youth to participate in, and that activities respond to member needs, address their interests, and reflect the full diversity of their personal identities. Monitor program and facility supplies, and with the Clubhouse Director, manage Clubhouse program and activity expenditures within the approved budget. Increase visibility of Club programs via posting of daily schedule. Staff Supervision Coordinate the day-to-day assignments of Youth Development Professionals to maintain the smooth flow of programs and proper staff coverage/ratios, per BGC policy. Ensure rotations are properly scheduled and executed. This may include writing and posting the daily program rotation schedule, coordinating staffing assignments for field trips, ensuring that meals are delivered on time, and coordinating breaks/relief for program staff. Assign and supervise daily Clubhouse opening and closing duties. Support staff and volunteer onboarding in collaboration with Clubhouse Director. Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and part time staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal. Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff. With the Clubhouse Director, ensure proper record keeping and reporting related to daily member activities and participation, including recording of any incidents, daily program attendance/participation data for the MyClubHub database, notable member achievements, and any problems/issues. Additional Responsibilities May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone Club, Torch Club, Youth of the Year awards, etc.) and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary. May consult with parents concerning member issues and/or behavior, as needed. May consult with staff at other Clubhouses related to field trips or other all-Club activities. Knowledge and Qualifications A minimum of two years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people. Experience working with children and knowledge of youth development. Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior challenges. Excellent communication and organizational abilities, with a focus on teamwork and collaboration. Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities. Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics. Ability to demonstrate professional behavior, communication, discretion and good judgment. Ability to problem solve and navigate unexpected situations. Ability to interact professionally and effectively with parents, community partners and members of the general public. Proficiency in using software for scheduling, communication, and data recording. Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications (training is available). Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. Ability to work significant hours on their feet, including afterschool, evenings and weekends. The Boys & Girls Clubs are often energetic, busy, and noisy environments. The Creative Arts Director will regularly work in this type of dynamic atmosphere.
