Pay Rate:
$21.03 / hour (Hourly) Position Overview The Youth Development Officer provides direct supervision, guidance, safety, and care for youth in a secured residential facility, adhering strictly to Harris County Juvenile Probation Department policies and Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) standards. This essential position supports daily living activities, manages behavioral interventions, provides verbal and physical de-escalation, documents progress in electronic monitoring systems, and escorts youth internally and externally for medical, educational, or official appointments.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Direct Youth Supervision & Care:
Maintain care, safety, security, and guidance for youth in dorms, classrooms, recreation areas, and hallways in full compliance with TJJD standards and applicable statutes.
Behavioral De-escalation & Crisis Intervention:
Provide safe redirection of negative or aggressive behaviors using verbal techniques and physical restraint/de-escalation in accordance with department guidelines.
Daily Living & Skill Instruction:
Guide and assist youth with personal hygiene, daily living skills, and routine maintenance of living and common areas across the facility.
Observation, Reporting & Communication:
Complete daily logs and behavior reports at required random intervals; enter behavior/intervention data into the electronic monitoring system and escalate key information to shift supervisors and treatment teams.
Transportation & Escort Duty:
Escort youth inside the facility and externally for hospital visits, funerals, educational outings, or agency appointments, operating departmental vehicles as required.

Educational Mandate:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited institution.
Age Requirement:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Mandatory Credentials & Skills:
Active Texas Class "C" Driver's License upon hire.
Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, word processing, Internet).
Ability to communicate effectively using two-way radio transmissions.
High tolerance for working in an emotionally demanding and high-stress environment.
Physical Demands (Medium Strength Category): Must be able to stand/walk for most of the shift; exert 20 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and 10 to 25 lbs. frequently; perform physical restraints during crisis situations when necessary.
