(SHOH) is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for women to receive individualized treatment and support to learn the life skills necessary to recover from substance use disorders and become life-long productive members of society. Soroptimist House of Hope is a nonprofit, Drug Medi-Cal-certified substance use disorder (SUD) treatment facility committed to empowering women on their journey of recovery. We provide a supportive, structured residential environment where women can develop the skills, confidence, and resources necessary to build a healthy and productive life in recovery. We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and recovery-oriented Peer Support Specialist to join our team. The Peer Support Specialist uses lived experience and recovery knowledge to provide encouragement, hope, mentoring, advocacy, and practical support to women participating in residential SUD treatment. Position Summary The Peer Support Specialist provides peer-based recovery support services to residents and serves as a positive role model for women working toward sustained recovery. This position promotes engagement in treatment, healthy relationships, life skills, recovery planning, community integration, and long-term recovery. The ideal candidate understands the challenges associated with substance use and recovery and is able to establish appropriate professional boundaries while building trusting and supportive relationships with residents. Duties and Responsibilities Provide peer support, encouragement, mentoring, and recovery-oriented assistance to residents. Use personal recovery experience appropriately to provide hope, motivation, and positive examples of recovery. Establish and maintain supportive, professional relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Assist residents in identifying personal strengths, recovery goals, barriers, and resources. Encourage residents to actively participate in their individualized treatment and recovery plans. Support residents in developing healthy coping skills, communication skills, life skills, and relapse-prevention strategies. Assist residents with transitioning from residential treatment to continued recovery and community-based services. Provide information and linkage to appropriate community resources, recovery meetings, support groups, employment resources, educational opportunities, and other services as directed. Accompany or assist residents with approved community activities, appointments, meetings, and recovery-related activities as assigned. Assist with regularly scheduled social recovery activities and services occurring during the assigned shift. Model healthy communication, appropriate behavior, accountability, and a recovery-oriented lifestyle. Encourage residents to develop healthy relationships and strengthen their sober support network. Support a safe, respectful, trauma-informed, and recovery-focused residential environment. Recognize and report changes in client behavior, emotional status, safety concerns, or other issues to appropriate clinical or supervisory staff. Maintain confidentiality and comply with

Part 2, and all applicable organizational policies and procedures. Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Utilize electronic documentation systems, Google Drive, and other technology as required. Communicate effectively with counselors, clinical staff, behavioral health technicians, medical staff, and other members of the treatment team. Attend staff meetings, trainings, supervision, and other meetings as assigned. Follow all SHOH policies and procedures, including safety, medication, emergency, client rights, and professional-boundary policies. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge and Skills Understanding of substance use disorders and the recovery process. Understanding of peer recovery support principles and recovery-oriented systems of care. Knowledge and understanding of the 12-Step process and/or other recovery support pathways. Ability to use lived recovery experience appropriately and professionally. Knowledge of relapse prevention and recovery-support strategies. Knowledge of community resources and recovery support services. Knowledge and good use of professional boundaries with coworkers and clients. Understanding of HIPAA compliance, confidentiality, and privacy measures. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in a residential treatment environment. Basic computer skills, including electronic documentation and Google Drive. Required Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum of one year of experience in a human services, behavioral health, substance use disorder, recovery, or related setting preferred. Personal lived experience with substance use recovery and the ability to appropriately use that experience in a professional peer-support role. Must have current Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification. Must have current CALMHSA State Certification. Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain certification. Valid California Driver's License. Clean DMV record and/or in accordance with program requirements. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Must be able to successfully complete required background screening and employment requirements. Must be able to work in an in-person residential treatment setting. Must demonstrate the ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and client confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications Recovery Coach or similar peer-recovery certification. Experience providing peer support to women in recovery. Experience working in a residential SUD treatment program. Knowledge of local recovery resources and community-based services. Experience with electronic health records or electronic client documentation.
