These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an "at-will" relationship. The branch of Vegetation and Ecological Restoration is within the Division of Resource Management and Science at Yosemite National Park. Our mission is to preserve biodiversity and heal degraded lands.

Duties:

Coordinate volunteer projects and groups for Yosemite National Park Vegetation and Ecological Restoration Programs. Contribute to vegetation management projects within Yosemite National Park by completing field work, coordinating, managing and supervising volunteers, and communicating between different NPS programs, offices, and non-NPS entities such as individual and group volunteers, youth corps. individuals and crews, and park partners such as the Yosemite Conservancy.

Treat invasive plant vegetation by chemical and manual means, working in outdoor field settings including off-trail and/or in backcountry settings utilizing hand tools and mechanized equipment. 30%

Coordinate with Vegetation and Ecological Restoration programs to establish volunteer project work, set schedules, and advertise projects to the public in coordination with the Yosemite National Park Volunteer Office. 20%

Ensure required documentation associated with volunteers is completed, report on accomplishments as needed, and communicate with volunteers and/or associated organizations as needed throughout the season. 10%

Collect and clean native plant seed, install native plant materials at restoration sites, manage restoration sites by preparing soil, planting, watering, mulching, etc. 10%

Reduce fuel loading to protect resources from wildfire and mitigating conifer encroachment in meadows. 10%

Collect and manage data associated with vegetation management project work. 10%

Report on project accomplishments utilizing field collected data and notes. 10%

Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 year(s) of experience in Volunteer management, vegetation management, and/or data collection and management

OR BA/BS

Degree OR Previously completed training in Volunteer management, vegetation management, and/or data collection and management

Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat

ArcGIS, FieldMaps, Survey123, Avenza, and/or other data collection apps/software

Other:

Training for pesticide handling, provided by NPS supervisor

Overnight travel: The position will require up to 40 days of overnight travel for front and back country hitches to perform field work away from the Yosemite Vegetation and Ecological Restoration office.

Health and Safety Considerations:

Work with tools and mechanized equipment, performed in adverse environmental conditions, and handling pesticide will all be required. Training will be provided following all applicable regulations and agency policies by the NPS supervisor.

Required Safety Gear:

Safety equipment will include different PPE based on the specific tasks performed. Any PPE will be provided by NPS or as a stipend through NEW Solutions for the employee.

Physical requirements: Ability to safely work carrying a load up to 45 lbs. on and off trail. Ability to hike for up to 15 miles per day on trail. Ability to effectively utilize hand tools to cut, scrape, dig, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
