Gathering for Women - Monterey (GFW) is seeking a caring, flexible, highly organized professional that has excellent communication skills, and enjoys working with a variety of people. This position is expected to be visibly present on-site during open hours. Volunteers have been at the center of all we do since we began in 2014. The Volunteer Coordinator position is an exciting opportunity to join an organization poised for significant growth. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for expanding our volunteer corps through relationship building, campaigns, and word of mouth, as well as making sure the volunteer experience reflects our mission and values. Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Recruit volunteers by actively engaging with community-based organizations, colleges, churches, companies, clubs, groups, and individuals via presentations, tabling, digital marketing, and other means. Respond to volunteer inquiries within 5 business days; guide potential volunteers through the process of becoming a long-term volunteer Ensure volunteers are trained in GFW's procedures, as well as specific procedures related to the volunteer's unique responsibilities. Ensure any required certificates are up to date (e.g. food handler certificate). Engage volunteers and potential volunteers in upcoming events, open shifts, and volunteer opportunities. Build positive relationships with volunteers and ensure volunteers are satisfied with their volunteer experience; garner feedback through continuous daily check-ins and meetings as appropriate. Lead ongoing volunteer recognition and appreciation initiatives. Cultivate and maintain an updated database of volunteer contact information, availability, skills, and resources. Ensure volunteer coverage for all scheduled volunteer shifts on a weekly basis, including curating a list of on-call or emergency volunteers for high-volume days or volunteer call-outs Assist in maintaining volunteer files, work records, and other HR documents (electronic and physical); generate documents, reports, correspondence, presentations and electronic communications. Design or modify forms and maintain up-to-date resource materials. Assist in coordinating volunteer schedules. Assist in various volunteer positions when volunteers are unavailable or call out. Provide customer service to the general public, GFW guests, employees, volunteers, contactors, and representatives of other agencies. Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
The work schedule is typically Monday through Friday, though it may vary and will include occasional evenings, weekends, and potentially, holiday. The office environment is working with a volunteers, staff, and guests who are primarily homeless women. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The Volunteer Coordinator will be required to stand, walk, stoop, and bend continually throughout the workday. Occasionally, you may be called on to lift up to 20 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess proven ability or accomplishment in the following: Demonstrated success with the duties listed. Exemplary and compassionate customer service skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal and relationship building skills. Ability to partner and communicate with a variety of internal and external contacts. Excellent planning, organizational, time and project management skills. Strong reasoning, analytic thinking and problem-solving skills and experience. Excellent attention to detail. Multi-tasking skills; flexibility. Ability to manage work assignments independently. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to take initiative to accept new assignments and challenges. Experience working effectively in both independent and team situations. Willingness to jump in and perform tasks outside of official role.
Education and Experience :
Bachelor's degree or at least three years in a related role required. Experience directing volunteers is preferred. Experience working or volunteering with a non-profit and/or with vulnerable populations is strongly desired. A passion for the mission is essential.
Background :
Employment with GFW is subject to a successful background check (fingerprinting).
Compensation:
This is a 40-hour a week position. Rate of pay is $20 to $26 per hour depending on experience. This is a non-exempt position. Benefits include paid holidays, vacation, and sick time.
