Job Description

Department Overview The Community Services Department provides recreation, educational, and enrichment programs and services for residents of all ages. Services include recreational classes and workshops, youth and adult sports programs, youth and adult swim activities, facility rentals for private and community events, seasonal and special community events, and senior-focused programs and services. Mission To provide hospitable places and spaces, lively events, and enriched programs in a fiscally responsible manner. Description Under the direction of the Senior Building Attendant, the Building Attendant supports the daily operation of City community centers and recreation facilities by assisting with front desk services, monitoring facility use, and supporting scheduled programs, rentals, and community events. Incumbents do not supervise other employees. Maximum of 950 hours per fiscal year. This position is responsible for assisting with the opening and closing of facilities, greeting and assisting the public, answering phones, processing program registrations and facility rentals, and ensuring that community spaces are clean, safe, and ready for use. The Building Attendant also supports facility reservations by preparing rooms for scheduled use, checking in groups and instructors, and ensuring facility rules are followed. This role directly supports the Community Services Department by helping deliver welcoming, well-maintained community spaces where residents can participate in recreation programs, attend classes, host events, and access public services. The Building Attendant contributes to the success of these operations by providing strong customer service, supporting smooth facility operations, and helping ensure events and programs run efficiently.
Examples of Duties:
Duties may include, but are not limited to: Customer Service & Public Interaction Answer phone calls and respond to general inquiries about programs, facility and services. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff and patrons.
Program / Facility
Operations Implement community center activities and enforce rules and policies. Assist with rentals and program operations. Setting up and breaking down tables and chairs, arranging rooms according to reservation specifications (banquet, classroom, lecture, activity setup, etc.). Administrative Support Assist with clerical duties using computer systems and software. Assist with class registration and customer transactions. Collect registration fees and prepare daily records. Participate in program evaluations, and safety reviews as requested. Safety & Compliance Respond to emergencies appropriately. Enforce community center rules and safety procedures. Facility Care & Operations Maintain a clean and orderly facility. Assist with minor janitorial maintenance and facility cleanliness. Other Duties Attend required meetings and trainings. Assist with special assignments related to community outreach when assigned. Perform other duties as assigned in support of Departmental operations. Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be 16 years of age or older. High School diploma or equivalent, if in school, a work permit is required. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as assigned. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a First Aid/CPR/AED certification within six (6) months of employment. California Class "C" Drivers License is desired. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Prolonged standing, sitting, walking on level or uneven surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, pushing, pulling, carrying, and lifting 25 pounds or more, and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties. Work is performed in indoor and outdoor community facility environments with regular public interaction. Work schedules are generally aligned with programming including days, evenings, weekends, and special events. Training Requirements Training will be provided to the successful candidates for their roles as a Building Attendant.
