Job Description
The Deerfield Public Library is seeking an outgoing and enthusiastic Youth Services Assistant to join our team. The ideal addition will enjoy working with children and caregivers and will have a passion for promoting lifelong learning. Duties include covering public service desk shifts, providing reader's advisory and reference services, and assisting with programming, storytimes, community outreach, and maintaining the collection. Ideal applicants are flexible, curious, creative, goal-oriented, and dedicated to providing the best service to Deerfield Patrons.
Schedule:
15 hours per weekMonday, Wednesday, Friday:
9:00 am - 1:00 pm Participation in a monthly Saturday/Sunday weekend rotation is required.Compensation:
$19 - $21 per hourWhat You'll Do Every Day:
Provide excellent customer service to patrons of all ages, from 0-18 years old as well as adults, and to staff in person and through telephone or online communication. Carry out public desk duties, including assisting patrons with reference and information requests, readers' advisory services, and use of computers and online resources. Assist with and provide programs and events, including storytimes, that are responsive to the interests of the community youth and ensure programs are inclusive and accessible. Assist with the maintenance of the library's collection, including shelving, restocking displays, and other collection tasks as needed. Support the creation of displays and booklists that promote the collections and services of the Youth Services Department.Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required Experience working with youth and caregivers in public libraries or other customer service settings required Demonstrated knowledge of current children's literature and trends Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal Excellent working knowledge of Google Suite, e-reader technology, and e-resource platforms includingOverdrive, Hoopla, and Kanopy Benefits Include:
