Youth Services Specialist (part-time) Pay grade: 6 (Non-exempt) Schedule (18 hours per week)
Option A:
Thursdays, 2-8pm Fridays, 4:30-9pm or 3:30-8pm Saturdays, 10am-6pm Option B Thursdays, 3-8pm or 4-9pm Fridays, 2:30-8pm or 3:30-9pm Saturdays, 10am-6pm Option C Thursdays, 4-8pm or 4-8:30pm Fridays, 2:30-9pm or 3-9pm Saturdays, 10-6pm (Week 1) Sundays, 10-6pm (Week 2) Do you love reading and making sure children are valued, inspired members of the community? If so, Skokie Public Library is looking for you! As a Youth Services Specialist , you'll be part of a joyful, knowledgeable team that provides spaces, programs, materials, and access to knowledge for children and those who love them. You'll provide welcoming, developmentally-appropriate customer service in the Kids Room spaces, support young people in reading and learning, and contribute to the library's services for kids from birth through grade 5 and their caregivers. What You'll Do Provide friendly, responsive customer service to all library patrons Offer personalized reading recommendations to kids and families Answer basic informational questions and assist with library resources Create and support book lists, displays, reviews, and other advisory materials Help maintain safe and welcoming spaces and services for kids Help support independent learning activities and engagement with kids Collaborate with colleagues on programs, outreach, and special projects Minimum Qualifications Some college coursework, an associate degree, or equivalent experience Experience providing direct customer service to youth and families What You Bring Excellent communication and social skills Cultural awareness and the ability to serve a diverse community Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility Broad knowledge of children's literature and information sources Comfort with technology A flexible, creative mindset and a genuine love of public service Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree Experience working in a public library Working Conditions This position involves both desk and active work, including standing, walking, lifting materials, and frequent computer use. Availability for days, evenings, and weekends may be required.Skokie Public Library offers:
