A Social or Human Services Specialist identifies and arranges community services for clients. Can involve coordination of services for people with disabilities or those in recovery. They may also coordinate housing or job training assistance for immigrants, veterans, former inmates or families in crisis and can be involved in advocating for client needs.
Non-exempt The Crisis Intervention Advocate is a full-time evening, and weekend position. The Crisis Intervention Advocate is responsible for answering the 24-hour crisis line, providing crisis intervention, and appropriate referrals. The person in this position is under the supervision of the Director of Residential Services. Who are we? We are the regional Domestic Violence Shelter & Program serving the BRADD region, consisting of Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, and Warren counties. Our agency consists of three major departments. Our outreach program assists survivors in court hearings and in individual counseling sessions. Our housing department assists survivors in their search for permanent housing and supports them in their transition to self-sufficiency. Our shelter, or residential services, is the most robust of our three major departments. While all advocates in our shelter contribute to case management services for clients fleeing Domestic Violence, including intake procedures and paperwork, assessments, referral to outside services and addressing urgent physical needs, advocates are also responsible for the upkeep of the shelter household needs. Household responsibilities include cleaning bedrooms for incoming clients, assisting in washing house laundry such as bath towels and bedding (does not include residents' laundry), cooking meals for residents of the shelter, and managing grocery and food stock. The mission of the Barren River area Safe Space, Inc is provide safety and support to victims of domestic violence and their children and empower them with opportunities that lead to self-sufficiency. We educate our community about domestic violence to help identify and spark change, and we advocate to protect the rights of individuals so everyone in our community can be free from abuse. We want to live in a community where patterns of abuse are broken and stigmas are gone -- a place where society is supportive of survivors, every person matters, homes are free from abuse, and healthy relationships thrive. Specific duties:
1. Answer the 24-hour crisis line. 2. Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and referral services. 3. Initiate intake process on clients entering the shelter or outreach services. 4. Assist in the orientation of new residents to the shelter. 5. Complete intakes and assessments. 6. Complete exit process, if resident exits on assigned shift. 7. Complete daily service notes for residents. 8. Compile and report statistical information on residents as required by funding sources. 9. Supervise routine evening, night and weekend activities in the Shelter. 10. Check security system at beginning of each shift to assure all doors and windows are locked and that security system is intact. 11. Monitor the interior of the shelter at regular intervals during each shift to assure the safety and well-being of residents. 12. Facilitate emergency response and safety procedures with shelter residents. 13. Observe any conditions that need maintenance or repair, and leave a written message for the Assistant Director. 14. Work on holidays according to designated shift. 15. Attend all required staff meetings and trainings. 16. Attend to regular shelter upkeep, including cleaning bedrooms, house laundry services, cooking meals for residents and other household duties. 17. Assist in maintaining food stock organization. 18. Perform all other duties as assigned by Executive Director. Required Qualifications At least 18 years of age. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Two years college with coursework in social service related area, or five years experience in victim services. Knowledge of dynamics of domestic violence, safety planning, justice system, and client-centered services. Adhere to the Revised Member Program Service Standards of the Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Commitment to complete required (for fulltime) training for Certification as Domestic Violence Advocate. Completion of First Aid, CPR, and Blood-borne Pathogen Training. Valid Kentucky driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance. Submit to a criminal background check. Required Qualifications At least 18 years of age. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Two years college with coursework in social service related area, or five years experience in victim services. Schedule and Pay The schedule for this position is flexible and can be dictated by the candidate based on their needs and availability, such as school schedule or other job(s). The only requirement is that the candidate is available for some combination of 3rd shift hours (9 pm to 7 am) and at least one weekend day (Fri, Sat or Sunday). Preferably, candidates would work 2 days per week. This position begins at $19.34 per hour. Benefits 4 hours of sick leave and 4 hours of vacation time awarded per month of service. Employee will receive their birthday as a paid holiday (up to the hours they would normally be scheduled. For example, if the staff member normally works 6 hours, they will receive 6 hours of paid time off for their birthday, maximum 8 hours.) Ongoing training, learning and CEU opportunities year-round.
