Our H.O.P. supports low‑ and moderate‑income clients on their journey from renting to homeownership, guiding them toward mortgage readiness through personalized coaching and resources. The program helps participants build financial stability and confidence by offering education in home maintenance, financial literacy, housing discrimination, and foreclosure prevention. Our goal is to empower families to achieve sustainable homeownership - something many never thought possible - and to strengthen the Eastside community through long‑term housing success. You should have good listening skills, a great deal of patience, be an excellent mediator, and highly knowledgeable about the property market, social services, and legal restrictions in Lansing, Michigan.

Responsibilities:

Assessing clients' eligibility and determining their housing and service needs. Assisting clients with the search for available properties and negotiating terms on behalf of clients. Collaborating with government agencies, community organizations, and property owners. Overseeing and working with our current tenants and H.O.P participants Ensuring clients understand their rights and responsibilities as tenants. Investigating and resolving client and landlord issues. Providing clients with information and referring them to additional support programs or services. Preparing and maintaining logs, records, activity documentation, and reports. Understanding and adhering to program rules and restrictions. Assisting with the closure of cases.

Requirements:

High school diploma/GED required. Degree in human services, social work, or related field preferred. Knowledge of processes and requirements dealing with

HUD, MSHDA

etc Experience as a housing counselor preferred. Working knowledge of social service agencies and community services. Knowledge of regulatory standards and property management. Good communication, interpersonal, and listening skills. Strong analytical, mediating, and negotiation skills. Excellent organizational and case management skills. Sensitive to different cultures and socio-economic conditions.

Hours:

Part-time - approx. 15-20 hours/week. Flexible for the right candidate
