POSITION OVERVIEW

The Loaves and Fishes ("L&F") Night Shelter Coordinator ensures a safe, secure, and supportive environment for shelter guests during overnight hours. Responsibilities include monitoring the facility, assisting guests with basic needs, responding to emergencies, enforcing shelter policies and procedures, maintaining the cleanliness and order of the shelter, and consistently engaging guests in a respectful and professional manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Understand and uphold L&F's vision, purpose, and core values. Maintain working knowledge of homelessness-related issues. Follow all L&F policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards. Monitor facility access and ensure guest safety. Operate security equipment and conduct regular safety rounds. Provide assistance to guests, including preparing meals, overseeing laundry schedule, and providing basic necessities. Always provide respectful interactions to ensure guests are treated with dignity and compassion. Respond in accordance with standard shelter procedures to any emergency situations that may arise. Enforce shelter rules, including ensuring timely guest departure each morning. Cleaning and general maintenance as instructed. Attend staff meetings and contribute to planning and updates as requested. Submit activity summaries and daily checklists. Attend special events, meetings, workshops, conferences, and training opportunities as required. Collaborate professionally with staff, guests, volunteers, and community responders. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

High school diploma or equivalent Ability and availability to work overnight shifts. Previous experience working with vulnerable/homeless populations preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with guests, volunteers, and staff. Ability to work independently and/or with limited supervision and as part of a team. Ability to remain calm, respectful, and professional in stressful situations. Basic conflict resolution and de-escalation skills preferred. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without accommodation. Must successfully complete a drug screening and criminal background check.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment The Night Shelter Coordinator works onsite, primarily indoors with occasional outdoor tasks. Duties involve extended periods of sitting and standing, along with activities such as meal preparations and cleaning. The role includes guest interaction, occasional interruptions, and requires strong communication skills. Work Schedule A regular schedule will be set. Typical hours to be worked are Monday through Sunday between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. EST. This position has the potential of working beyond/outside normal business hours. There may be unexpected changes in the schedule. Physical Demands This position requires the ability to sit or stand up to 10 hours or more at a time and sufficient auditory and visual acuity as needed to interact with others in person or via telephone. The person in this position will perform various physical activities, including those associated with meal preparation and cleaning, and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
