A Public Housing Coordinator oversees the daily operations, maintenance, and resident relations of affordable housing properties. They ensure communities remain safe, sanitary, and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations while balancing a humanitarian mission to assist low-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities Tenant Management:
Process applications, manage rent collection, enforce leases, and conduct annual income recertifications. Conduct lease-up meetings and move-out inspections.
Operations:
Oversee Public Housing operations for five agencies under HPWN Management.
Asset Maintenance:
Coordinate with maintenance staff and outside contractors to perform routine repairs, preventative maintenance, and safety inspections.
Regulatory Compliance:
Follow stringent HUD (Housing and Urban Development) and local housing authority guidelines to ensure fair housing practices.
Travel:
Travel to properties in Chappell, Gordon, and Hay Springs, NE.
Financial Operations:
Maintain program budgets and review expenses.
Resident Relations:
Investigate complaints, resolve disputes, and coordinate community services to support tenant well-being.
Staff Management:
Lead Public Housing staff members and oversee day-to-day duties and initiate regular training and team building.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
High School Diploma/GED required. A bachelor's or associate's degree in Business or Public Administration is preferred but not required.
Skills:
Strong proficiency in property management software, local resource knowledge, and conflict resolution. Self-motivated starter who takes initiative. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills a MUST.
Requirements:
- Valid driver's license.
- Basic computer skills
- Clean criminal background and drug test.
- Ability to withstand prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Requires bending, squatting, climbing, and reaching.
