CENTER JOB SUMMARY
The Human Service Specialist provides the highest level of care, assistance, and support to Parma residents and senior center members
  • particularly at-risk seniors, individuals with disabilities, low-income households, and other vulnerable populations.
Referrals for Community Support Services may come from the Smallwood Activities Center, City Council, Police and Fire Departments, Building Department, or any other city department requiring assistance with older adults. Additional referrals may come from hospitals, social service agencies, or individuals through self-referral. The incumbent helps residents maintain their independence in a safe and supportive environment. This role is vital to enhancing the well-being of individuals and families in the community. The Human Service Specialist works closely with clients to assess needs, offer guidance, and provide compassionate support while helping them navigate complex social, emotional, and physical health challenges. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Senior Center Director. Performance of the core objectives of the position are essential job functions. This position is "Unclassified" (not Classified) within the Civil Service of the City of Parma.

JOB CONTEXT
The Human Service Specialist works a 35-work week which includes one unpaid hour for lunch. The position is full-time with benefits and operates 12 months a year. Regular and predictable on-site attendance is an essential job function. The incumbent's work will be performed primarily at resident homes and at the Donna Smallwood Activities Center but can extend out into the community when needed. The stress level and health risk may be high in response to the types of activity; when working with clients in their home, emergency situations, home environment concerns, hazardous and unsanitary conditions, hoarding situations, household pets and pests (bed bugs, fleas, etc.,). The Human Service Specialist must be able to respond quickly and calmly to emergency situations.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Human Service Specialist
  • A degree in Social Work, LSW or LISW
  • Two years' experience working with older adult population ( Preferred)
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver's License
  • Good driving record
  • Strong computer skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of non-profits, governmental agencies, and related programs Human Service Specialist
  • Ohio Senior Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) Certification
  • Homebound Assessment Program proficiency _________________________________________________________________________ In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Parma and AFSCME Local #3924 which expires on December 31, 2026, the Step 1 annual salary for a Human Service Specialist is $61,009.
