Job Description

Mission:
The Silicon Valley Independent Living Center (SVILC) is searching for a Housing Coordinator to join us in our mission to create fully inclusive communities that value the dignity, equality, freedom and worth of every human being. Summary:
This position provides direct housing assistance services to individuals with disabilities. The Housing Coordinator coordinates, locates and develops local resources in order to provide housing referral and advocacy for people with disabilities, including those who are transitioning from a Long-Term Care (LTC) facility to a community-based setting. This is a full-time, non-exempt position at 35 hours/week working out of SVILC's San Jose office. This position is eligible for SVILC's benefits package, which includes health and dental insurance, personal development time, vacation and sick leave.
Supervised by:
Director of Programs Positions supervised: None. With Supervisor's direction, provide support assignments to the part-time Housing Services Assistant as applicable through Sourcewise's Senior Employment Program.
Essential Functions:
Survey and maintain accurate listings and resources of accessible, affordable, and integrated housing for persons with disabilities within Santa Clara County. Provide appropriate housing referrals to consumers. Advocate for emergency, transitional and permanent housing for consumers transitioning from a long term care facility or homelessness to the community. Conduct and facilitate one to two weekly housing workshops at the main office and monthly workshops in the community at various senior/community centers. Identify and facilitate outreach/marketing opportunities for housing services presentations. Support SVILC's Community Transition Coordinators (CTC) with the Housing portions of the transition process specifically, and generally assist with other housing related duties as requested. Responsible for daily data entry, and monthly and quarterly statistical tracking reports, as requested. Serve as an individual and systems advocate for consumers, especially in the area of Housing. Participate in meetings, tours, and presentations as needed. Provide all core independent living services (peer support, advocacy, information & referral, IL training (e.g., budgeting) and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and ability desired. Reasonable Accommodations will be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position. AA or BA degree in social services, psychology, social work, health or related field. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Detailed knowledge of the affordable housing market in Santa Clara County, and familiarity with fair housing law and tenant/landlord rights. Social or health care experience preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort with public speaking, including ability to facilitate group workshops on housing readiness skills. Basic computer skill and understanding of electronic data entry, word processing, email, and use of social media. Experience, knowledge, and understanding of the needs, and rights of persons with disabilities. Bi-Lingual in Spanish or ASL is preferred. Personal experience with disability/disability issues preferred.
Physical Demands:
Sitting for long periods of time. Using computer monitor and keyboards and iPad, as well as a telephone headset, for long periods of time. Travel to various community offices and venues for Housing Workshops and other meetings. Make outreach visits to locations where individuals with disabilities may be contacted. Starting Hourly Wage:
$22 - $25 plus 100% paid medical and dental, 12 paid holidays, vacation & sick leave.
