Job Description

Leading Into New Communities, Inc. (LINC) is seeking a compassionate and motivated Peer Support Specialist (PSS) to support individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges, substance use recovery, crisis situations, and barriers to stability. This role uses lived experience to build trust, provide trauma-informed support, assist with de-escalation, and connect participants to critical community resources. This position is part of a grant-funded program. Employment is expected to continue through September 2027; however, continued employment is contingent upon grant funding and is not guaranteed beyond the life of the grant.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide peer-based support and crisis intervention Build trusting relationships with participants Assist with safety planning and recovery goals Support individuals with housing, behavioral health, and substance use resources Use trauma-informed de-escalation techniques during crises Encourage participant engagement in services and recovery programs Maintain accurate documentation and collaborate with team members Participate in outreach, trainings, and staff meetings
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required NC Peer Support Specialist Certification required or must be obtained within one year Lived experience with recovery and/or justice involvement strongly preferred Experience working with underserved or justice-involved populations preferred Knowledge of recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and community resources required

Pay:
$17.00 - $19.00 per hour People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply
