The philosophy of DinoMights centers around connecting with youth from their early elementary years through high school graduation, and providing them with the support they need to become self-assured, competent adults. Using hockey as an incentive, DinoMights provides academic tutoring, mentoring, computer instruction, study, camping, community service, and various optional faith-based activities that help fulfill its mission to develop physical, academic, social, and spiritual excellence. //www.dinomights.com The DinoMights Volunteer Coordinator builds and sustains a strong volunteer community that advances the organization's mission. The role recruits, screens, matches, onboards, supports, and recognizes mentors and other volunteers; maintains accurate records and required training and certification documentation; and collaborates with program staff to ensure volunteers are prepared and supported. The Volunteer Coordinator also assists with fundraising events and stewardship of volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community partners. This part-time role reports to the Executive Director and averages 20+
  • hours per week, with flexible remote work and required in-person activities in Minneapolis and St.
Paul. This position has no direct reports.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION
Volunteer Recruitment Partner with program staff to assess annual, seasonal, and event-specific volunteer needs and develop recruitment plans. Recruit mentors and regular volunteers, including hockey coaches, tutors, hockey-equipment volunteers, and outdoor-rink maintenance volunteers. Recruit volunteers for one-time and special opportunities, including Brother Sister Team and other service projects, Greg Carroll Learn2Skate, Billy Lindsay Rink activities, the Car Wash, and fundraising events. Build recruitment pipelines with churches, schools, community groups, corporations, alumni, service organizations, and current volunteers. Respond promptly to volunteer inquiries and coordinate applications, interviews, references, background-check steps, and other screening requirements. Match volunteers with roles based on program needs, skills, interests, availability, and readiness. Maintain timely, welcoming follow-up from initial interest through placement and onboarding. Volunteer Engagement and Retention Provide a welcoming onboarding experience, clear expectations, and ongoing connection for volunteers. Conduct regular check-ins and collaborate with program staff to address questions, performance concerns, support needs, or changes in placement. Gather volunteer feedback through evaluations, surveys, conversations, and exit or transition follow-up. Plan and coordinate volunteer recognition, appreciation, and communication that demonstrates the impact of volunteers' service. Identify opportunities for volunteers to deepen their involvement, develop leadership skills, or serve in new roles. Maintain relationships with former volunteers and DinoMights alumni and encourage appropriate re-engagement. Volunteer Administration, Training, and Compliance Maintain accurate and confidential records of volunteer contact information, service, placement, performance, feedback, training, certifications, and retention. Collaborate with program staff to track required USA Hockey and Minnesota Hockey items, including USA Hockey membership, background checks, SafeSport, CEP certification, online modules, concussion training, and other role-specific requirements. Coordinate or support DinoMights tutor orientation, hockey-coach orientation, and other volunteer training and onboarding activities. Monitor due dates and expirations and follow up with volunteers and staff so required documentation is completed before service. Provide periodic updates on volunteer recruitment, placement, training, engagement, and retention. Fundraising and Stewardship Assist with planning, promotion, volunteer staffing, logistics, registration, and follow-up for the Annual Fundraiser, 10K Race, Car Wash, and other fundraising activities. Recruit, prepare, support, and thank fundraising-event volunteers, ensuring they receive clear assignments and understand the purpose and impact of the event. Help identify prospective supporters, sponsors, and in-kind contributors through volunteer and community networks and coordinate introductions and follow-up with the Executive Director. Support stewardship of volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community partners through timely appreciation, approved impact updates, recognition, and invitations to future involvement. Maintain accurate relationship notes, interests, preferences, and engagement history in designated systems while protecting confidential information. Gather approved volunteer stories and outcomes and assist with acknowledgment of in-kind support and other stewardship communications.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High school diploma or GED. Experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, nonprofit programs, youth development, customer service, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
MINIMUM TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED
Microsoft Office or Google Workspace skills Basic computer, email, data-entry, scheduling, and virtual-meeting skills Experience with volunteer databases or relationship-management systems, or the ability to learn them Ability to use social media, online postings, and other digital tools to support volunteer recruitment and communication

matching Flexible Work Location Much of the Volunteer Coordinator's work can be done remotely. An office space is available for the Volunteer Coordinator. There will be events that require the Volunteer Coordinator to be in person. Candidates must be capable of being in person in Minneapolis and St. Paul for events such as volunteer trainings, volunteer appreciations, DinoMights fundraisers, occasional meetings, etc.
