We are looking for people who can use their lived experience with purpose, connect with patients without judgment, and help them see practical paths forward. Peer specialists provide individual and group recovery support, help patients identify strengths and goals, build self-advocacy skills, connect with community resources, and work alongside the treatment team. This role requires clear professional boundaries, confidentiality, timely documentation, and participation in supervision. We welcome applicants with a current Texas Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) or Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) certification. Duties Provide peer support and mentorship to individuals experiencing mental health conditions and substance use disorders, sharing personal recovery experiences to inspire hope. Assist clients in developing coping strategies through motivational interviewing and crisis intervention techniques. Support clients in navigating behavioral health systems, including connecting them with community resources and treatment options. Engage in crisis management by recognizing signs of distress or escalation and implementing appropriate intervention protocols. Promote harm reduction principles by educating clients on safer practices related to substance use and mental health management. Maintain strict confidentiality of client information while fostering a trusting, respectful environment. Advocate for clients' needs by collaborating with clinical teams and participating in case planning to support recovery goals. Requirements Lived experience with mental health conditions or substance use disorders, demonstrating personal recovery journey. Knowledge of crisis management, crisis intervention, and behavioral health best practices. Experience working with culturally diverse communities to ensure inclusive support services. Strong understanding of recovery peer support principles, harm reduction strategies, and addiction counseling techniques. Ability to communicate effectively with clients, family members, and multidisciplinary teams. Skills in mentoring, client advocacy, social work principles, and maintaining patient confidentiality. Familiarity with motivational interviewing methods and sharing personal recovery experiences to motivate others.
