Non-Exempt Join Our Team Gulf Coast Center is seeking a compassionate and motivated Mental Health Peer Specialist to support individuals on their recovery journey. In this role, you will use your lived experience and recovery expertise to provide peer support, advocacy, wellness coaching, and resource navigation in both community and clinical settings. As a Mental Health Peer Specialist, you will empower individuals to identify personal recovery goals, build meaningful support systems, and develop strategies to achieve long-term wellness and independence. What You'll DoKey Responsibilities Facilitate peer support groups that encourage recovery, resilience, and community connection. Provide individual peer support services in outpatient and community-based settings. Assist individuals in identifying and achieving recovery and wellness goals. Support clients in developing personalized wellness and recovery plans. Connect individuals with community resources and referral services. Build and maintain relationships with community partners and service providers. Promote self-advocacy, recovery-oriented practices, and client empowerment. Document services accurately in the electronic health record within required timeframes. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care. Maintain compliance with agency policies, ethical standards, and documentation requirements. Deliver exceptional customer service to clients, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders. Travel throughout Brazoria and Galveston Counties to provide services and attend meetings or trainings as needed. QualificationsRequired Education High School Diploma or GED. Required Certification Certified Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS), or Ability to obtain MHPS certification within one year of hire. Must maintain required continuing education to keep certification current. Required Experience & Knowledge Minimum of two years of personal recovery experience. Experience identifying community resources and making referrals. Knowledge of mental health recovery principles and peer support practices. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Understanding of diverse populations, cultural backgrounds, and recovery approaches. Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. Preferred Qualifications Current MHPS certification. Experience using electronic health record systems.
