POSITION OVERVIEW LWSC
is seeking a dynamic, community-driven Education Programs Manager & Volunteer Coordinator to lead our Nordic ski programs and cultivate a strong, engaged volunteer community. This role blends hands-on ski program leadership with intentional community building and volunteer program development. The ideal candidate is not only an experienced program leader, but also a connector—someone who can recruit, retain, and inspire volunteers while fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and mission-driven LWSC community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES NORDIC & ALPINE SKI PROGRAM LEADERSHIP
(PRIMARY FOCUS) Lead and oversee LWSC's Nordic ski programs, including youth development, recreational, and competitive teams. Maintain a strong Nordic skiing and coaching presence, with the ability to step in and lead practices when coaches are unavailable. Provide oversight and support for LWSC's Alpine programs, including youth development and recreational programming, while collaborating with local Alpine race organizations and coaching staff. Support and strengthen existing after-school ski programs while exploring opportunities to develop complementary Nordic programming. Design and support athlete progression pathways from beginner through advanced levels. Recruit, supervise, mentor, and support coaching staff and volunteer coaches. Develop seasonal training plans, practice schedules, and race calendars. Coordinate race participation, travel logistics, and team communications. Foster a positive, inclusive, and development-focused team culture. Ensure high standards for safety, coaching quality, and athlete experience. Engage with Nordic and Alpine experts to support training methodology, waxing education, and athlete development. Volunteer Recruitment, Retention & Community Building Lead LWSC's volunteer program with a focus on recruiting, retaining, and recognizing volunteers. Build clear and accessible pathways for involvement (participant → volunteer → coach → leader). Develop meaningful volunteer roles that connect individuals to LWSC's mission. Create systems for volunteer onboarding, communication, training, and engagement. Foster a strong sense of belonging, appreciation, and community among volunteers. Plan and support volunteer recognition and community-building opportunities. Program & Event Management Plan, implement, and evaluate LWSC programs year-round, including educational and recreational offerings. Oversee all aspects of Bakke Cup and Skirennen, two longstanding ski races hosted by LWSC. Coordinate volunteers, staffing, and logistics for programs, races, and events. Ensure programs are appropriately staffed through proactive volunteer coordination. Collaborate with staff, board leadership, and committees to improve and expand programming opportunities. Community Engagement Serve as a visible and approachable leader within the LWSC community. Build strong relationships with athletes, families, volunteers, members, community partners, and stakeholders. Communicate clearly and consistently with program participants and volunteers across all LWSC programs. Help cultivate an inclusive, welcoming, and community-centered culture. Administration & Systems Track program participation and volunteer engagement. Maintain volunteer records, including hours, certifications, and assigned roles. Implement systems that support efficient volunteer coordination and communication throughout LWSC programs and events. Assist with budgeting, program planning, and evaluation. Collaborate on and seek grant funding opportunities. Provide regular reports and updates to leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRE
Experience coaching or managing Nordic ski programs, youth sports programs, or related outdoor recreation programs. Experience recruiting, coordinating, or managing volunteers. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to build relationships and foster community. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, seasonal environment.
PREFERRED
Nordic ski coaching experience, including youth and/or competitive programs. Certification through
PSIA, U.S.
Ski & Snowboard, or similar organizations. Experience supervising coaches or leading teams. Background in race programming and athlete development pathways. Experience building volunteer-driven organizations or community programs.
