Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse and Mental Health Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive mental health and addiction counseling services to individuals facing substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Responsibilities Conduct thorough client assessments to evaluate mental health status, substance use patterns, and co-occurring disorders using DSM-5 criteria and evidence-based practices. Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and applied behavior analysis. Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions focused on addiction counseling, mental health support, relapse prevention, and behavioral management. Implement crisis intervention techniques to manage acute psychiatric episodes or substance-related emergencies with professionalism and sensitivity. Coordinate care with healthcare providers, social workers, family members, and community resources to ensure holistic patient care and case management. Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation adhering to HIPAA standards, including medical records, progress notes, treatment plans, and billing codes such as

CPT, ICD-10/ICD-9.

Experience Proven experience working with individuals diagnosed with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions in clinical or community settings. Strong background in psychotherapy techniques including motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), crisis management, and group therapy facilitation. Familiarity with crisis intervention strategies and crisis management protocols for behavioral health emergencies. Experience conducting client assessments using DSM-5 diagnostic criteria; familiarity with ICD coding for accurate diagnosis documentation. Knowledge of medical terminology related to mental health and addiction medicine; experience working within hospital or home & community care environments is a plus. Proficiency in clinical documentation standards, EMR/EHR systems management, and maintaining patient confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations from various cultural backgrounds while delivering culturally competent care.
