A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

Exodus Recovery is looking to hire a per diem Substance Abuse Specialist for our NELA Program.
Job Description:
Substance Abuse Specialist acts as a full-time Care Manager with specialty focus on working with individuals who use substances. Educates clients and colleagues about the needs of clients with SUD and services available to them including Harm Reduction, Medication Assisted Treatment, Outpatient and Residential treatment and others. Performs Alcohol and Drug Assessments, and conducts individual and group counseling/education as it relates to the treatment and rehabilitation of clients with SUD. Provides and initiate contacts with a variety of community resources; and implement linkages and assists with placement of clients in the assigned program/team.
Requirements:
Two years' experience in both behavioral health or homeless services setting. Case Management experience, strong crisis intervention skills. Knowledge of Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care and Motivational interviewing. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with team and independently, and show mature judgment. Skills in working with clients who are difficult to refer and/or engage in traditional programs. Substance use disorders and alcohol counselor training. Bachelors in a mental health related field preferred. Experience will be accepted in lieu of degree.
