Job Description

Medicine Wheel Clinic is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and recovery-oriented Part-Time Addiction Counselor to join our growing team. This position is ideal for either a trained counseling professional or someone early in their counseling career who is looking to gain experience in the substance use treatment field while working toward professional certification and advancement. We strongly prefer candidates who have completed a CADC-T training program and are actively pursuing certification through the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Certification Board of Georgia (ADACBGA). Candidates pursuing certification through GACA will also be considered. If you are already a CADCI, CADCII, or CCS that would be wonderful and those candidates are encouraged to apply. About Us Medicine Wheel Clinic is a CARF-accredited, mission driven, Opioid Treatment Program serving Northeast Georgia since 2008. We provide Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD), counseling, peer recovery support, case management, transportation assistance, wrap around services, and community outreach services. Our mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care while supporting long-term recovery and wellness. Position Summary The Addiction Counselor provides individual counseling, treatment planning, case coordination, crisis intervention, and clinical documentation for individuals receiving treatment for substance use disorders. The counselor works closely with medical, nursing, peer support, and administrative staff to support patient recovery and treatment engagement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct individual counseling sessions with assigned patients. Complete assessments, treatment plans, treatment plan reviews, and discharge summaries. Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation. Monitor patient progress and update treatment plans as needed. Assist patients in identifying recovery goals and developing relapse prevention strategies. Coordinate referrals to community resources and higher levels of care when appropriate. Participate in case staffing, supervision, and team meetings. Assist with crisis intervention and patient support as needed. Participate in or lead recovery groups once trained. Maintain compliance with clinic policies, CARF standards, state regulations, and confidentiality requirements. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a CADC-T training program preferred. Candidates pursuing certification through ADACBGA or GACA are encouraged to apply. Experience working with individuals affected by substance use disorders, mental health conditions, or recovery support services preferred. Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality with patients, agencies, and the public. No convicted felonies of any kind within the last five years. No pending charges. If you otherwise have a criminal background we will take what kind of charges and your recovery journey into consideration. Ability to model sobriety and consistently pass a 10 panel drug test (both at hire and randomly throughout employment). Preferred Characteristics Passion for helping individuals affected by substance use disorders. Lived experience with substance use disorders, especially certified peers Strong desire to learn and grow professionally especially in an environment of rapidly changing regulations. Understanding the critical importance of documentation when assisting patients. Experience working with substance use disorder and/or other at-risk communities. Ability to build rapport with diverse patient populations. Consistently demonstrates and model teamwork, accountability, and mutual respect.
