Adolescent Residential Counselor

We are seeking candidates for a Residential Counselor to work with clients on our STARS Adolescent Unit in Fort Dodge. Clients will be between ages 12-17 and have substance use related concerns. This position involves carrying a caseload and facilitating groups, plus individual sessions with your clients. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists clients in completion of necessary assessment forms/documents. Participates with Program Supervisor in development of recommendations for clients. Prepares and distributes assessment results, reports, etc. as required and requested. Assists individuals and families in the intervention process through educational and planning sessions and, when feasible, participates in the interventions. Maintains appropriate client and pre-client case records. Provides clients and families with referral resources for the services not provided by the agency or when agency services are inappropriate. Provides client orientation to treatment services. Assists in the development, coordination, and evaluation of treatment program. Conducts individual and family sessions consistent with treatment plans. Develops and coordinates individual treatment plans with client, Program Director, and referral sources. Facilitates groups as required and provides follow-up services.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8 am-4:30 pm, Thursday 11 am to 7:30 pm

Education and Experience Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in the social or behavioral sciences, is required; OR Associate degree, preferably in the social or behavioral sciences, AND two years of experience as a full-time substance use and/or problem gambling counselor may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor's degree. Certification as a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC) is preferred. If not achieved before hire, candidate must be willing to get certified after hire as soon as they can meet the qualifications per the Iowa Board of Certification standards.
