Basic Function:

This individual is capable of performing independent work in the therapeutic care, treatment and rehabilitation of clients within the program. This position plans and conducts therapeutic activities and counsels therapeutically with clients on an individual and group basis. He/she must demonstrate an advanced understanding of the full continuum of care. In addition, this person must have a broad understanding of how a drug and alcohol treatment program operates and how each client progresses in the treatment system.

Essential Functions :

Provides therapeutic care, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients. Facilitates individual and group counseling sessions. Works with other social agencies and managed care organizations, hospitals, clinics, courts, prisons, and gatekeepers to meet patient needs and assist them in utilizing provided resources. Prepares treatment plans, histories, writes letters, generates reports and keeps records. Encourages, reassures, and provides support to patients. Recommends educational and occupational training to patients. Provides assessments and evaluations based on ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) criteria. Assesses treatment plans for patients using the ASI (Addiction Severity Index) and the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). Determines the appropriate level of care according to ASAM criteria. Reviews previous records that are relevant to the current treatment episode. Collaborates with patients to develop a recovery treatment plan. Observes patients throughout treatment to determine the need for continued services, transfer, or discharge. Reviews and, where necessary, revises patient treatment plans. Develops discharge/transfer plan to ensure access to appropriate levels of care. Contacts, consults, and coordinates with referral sources as appropriate. Participates with a multidisciplinary team for assigned patients. Provides active case consultation. Documents all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals and follow- up in the patient's clinical record, and providing appropriate signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records. Continues special training in areas designated by the Supervisor. May also comply with requirements of

CADC/LCADC.

Ensures proper collection and documentation of urine samples. Attends, participates, and when necessary, case consultations, facilitate special events, such as seminars, lectures, retreats, trips, workshops, etc. Serves as a role model of pro social behaviors. Responsible for full patient case load and documentation of accountability procedures that require verification of interventions. Moderates special groups such as family meetings, workshops or presentations. Responsible for orientation of new staff members when the Director of Outpatient Services is not available. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

Master's or Bachelor's with a degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services or related field is preferred; Associate's Degree in related fields is required. Possession of an CADC, LCADC, LSW, LCSW, LPC, or LAC license are acceptable. If the candidate is currently taking classes or in the process of achieving the certification, that is also acceptable. Must have least two years working as a counselor, preferably in an addiction treatment facility. Knowledge of the basic principles, philosophies, practices, and procedures involved at drug treatment facilities. Knowledge of the bio psycho social characteristics and manifestations of drug addiction. Knowledge of individual and group behavior and the effective ways of working with people to encourage on-going recovery. Ability to work effectively with people, and aid them in identifying their specific needs. Must be able to develop a therapeutic relationship with patients while maintaining therapeutic boundaries. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, other members of staff, outside agencies, institutions, and the general public. Ability to successfully work with others from various cultures and backgrounds. Familiar with a facility environment, primary functions performed, and an understanding of a patient's levels of care. Experience with facilitating groups, seminars, meetings and/or specialized therapeutic groups and activities.
