A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

Company Description:
The Life Change Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has been providing recovery services for heroin and prescription medication abuse concerns since 1999. We offer a variety of services to help people to make the changes necessary to beat their drug addiction. The emphasis of our recovery program is based on two primary themes; empowerment and improving quality of life. We have a talented group of staff members with expertise in recovery from opioid addictions.
Qualifications :
The Life Change Center is hiring a Substance Abuse Counselor-Intern. An applicant with a bachelors degree, or at least 60 credits, in an approved social science field would qualify to be a
CADC-Intern:
https://alcohol.nv.gov/uploadedFiles/alcoholnvgov/Content/Licensure/certified_alcohol_drug_counselor_I_flowchart-508.pdf A CADC, LADC, or LCADC would also qualify and compensation is DOE. A successful candidate would have knowledge and experience in performing intake assessments using
DSM 5/ASAM
criteria to determine the appropriate level of care; case management functions, including: referral to other community resources for needed health, housing, employment problems; working with patient to satisfy any legal/parole and probation issues; providing individual and group counseling on substance abuse; developing treatment plans and maintaining files on patients in accordance with SAPTA, Medicaid, and company policies; assisting in the development of workable titration schedules in consultation with patient and physician; keeping current on all training and certification/licensing requirements; and participating in quality improvement and quality assurance processes.
