A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

Nao Medical | Mineola, NYPart-Time | 1099 Contract | $32 to $40/hour • Flexible Weekday Schedule • Complimentary Health Visits Bring your CASAC to a program that's being built the right way. Nao Medical is growing its OASAS-certified outpatient substance use disorder program at our Mineola clinic, and we're looking for a contracted CASAC Counselor to provide individual and group counseling within a harm reduction framework. This is a flexible, on-call role with shifts available Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, scheduled around your availability. You'll work alongside a Medical Director, an integrated care team, and a clinic that wraps substance use treatment into broader primary and behavioral health services instead of siloing it. Our OASAS-certified outpatient program integrates substance use treatment with primary and behavioral health services to meet clients where they are. Why You'll Love This Role Harm reduction model from day one: a program designed around dignity, not stigma Flexible on-call schedule built around your availability, not the other way around Work alongside a Medical Director and integrated clinical team, not in isolation Substance use treatment embedded in a full-service medical clinic with wraparound care AI-powered documentation tools to reduce charting burden Complimentary health visits at any Nao Medical location for you and your loved ones Open to all CASAC-certified professionals, including those currently employed elsewhere Compensation $32 to $40 per hour (based on experience) Complimentary health visits at Nao Medical What You'll Do Assessment and treatment planning: Conduct comprehensive assessments evaluating substance use, mental health, and psychosocial needs, then develop individualized treatment plans rooted in evidence-based practices Individual and group counseling: Provide direct clinical counseling to clients using modalities including CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing OASAS compliance and documentation: Maintain accurate client records, ensure adherence to OASAS regulations, and support timely reporting in coordination with the Medical Director Family and community education: Educate clients and families on the nature of addiction, recovery strategies, and available resources while leading outreach to maintain a steady referral pipeline Collaborative care: Partner with healthcare providers, social workers, and behavioral health professionals to deliver holistic, client-centered care
