Substance Abuse Therapists are needed for an outpatient/community health organization in New York, NY . Prior experience providing substance use disorder treatment, preferably in an outpatient or community health setting, is required . This is a full-time direct hire opportunity . Paid medical insurance and PTO offered. Strong clinical skills and a commitment to patient care are a must.
  • We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Substance Abuse Therapist to join our client's team.
The Substance Abuse Therapist will play a crucial role in providing individual and group therapy to clients struggling with substance abuse and addiction. This position requires either a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) with a CASAC credential, or a Master of Social Work (MSW) with substance abuse experience.
Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate clients' substance abuse history, mental health status, and treatment needs. Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients, setting achievable goals and objectives for recovery. Provide evidence-based therapy modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), to address substance abuse and related issues. Facilitate group therapy sessions focused on topics such as relapse prevention, coping skills development, and family dynamics in addiction. Collaborate with other members of the treatment team, including psychiatrists, nurses, and case managers, to coordinate care and ensure integrated treatment approaches. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries in accordance with regulatory standards and agency policies. Monitor clients' progress throughout the course of treatment, adjusting interventions and goals as needed to support successful recovery outcomes. Provide education and support to clients' families and significant others, engaging them in the treatment process and addressing their concerns and needs. Stay informed about the latest research, best practices, and developments in the field of substance abuse treatment, participating in ongoing training and professional development activities as required.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree with a CASAC credential (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor)
  • OR•Master of Social Work (MSW) with previous substance abuse experience.
Experience working in the field of substance abuse treatment, including knowledge of addiction recovery principles, treatment modalities, and relapse prevention strategies. Strong clinical assessment and intervention skills, with the ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build therapeutic relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds.
