A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

Summary:
Our Counselor Assistants are responsible for facilitating clinical support services for the program as outlined by facility standards and in accordance with the philosophy of the program.

Shift:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
Pay:

Responsibilities:
Assist individuals in establishing necessary connections with available supports in the community to facilitate initiation and ongoing engagement in the recovery process. Support individuals in developing and solidifying long-term recovery supports and provide services throughout their engagement in the treatment continuum. Offer opportunities for individuals to direct their own recovery plans and supports, focusing on building self-worth, wellness, empowerment, and self-advocacy. Collaborate with individuals' families, service and treatment providers, other programs, and community supports to assist in goal achievement. Initiate and develop treatment planning goals through contact with clients, families, colleagues, and other staff. Conduct individual and process group therapy sessions under the direction of the treatment supervisor, including preparing materials for sessions. Manage client files and communicate with referral sources and company representatives. Attend treatment team meetings with psychiatrists and staff, and participate in community meetings with clients. Complete family sessions as necessary and prepare utilization reviews with appropriate funding sources. Attend training sessions as required and maintain a daily client caseload. Perform clerical duties for the maintenance of client files and listen to clients concerning all areas of treatment. Maintain a safe, orderly, and therapeutic physical environment for clients, including crisis intervention. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Active statewide clinical license or certification by a statewide certification board. Master's Degree in a human services area and working towards certification by a statewide certification board (CAADC) or a statewide clinical license. Bachelor's Degree in a human services area and working towards certification by a statewide certification board (CADC). Associate's Degree in a human services area and working towards certification by a statewide certification board (CAAC).
