A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

SUMMARY This position is responsible for conducting assessments to determine appropriate placement levels for outpatient dual diagnosis care. The incumbent also facilitates individual and group counseling sessions to provide clients with opportunities to explore recovery issues and work toward mutually determined recovery goals. The counselor assistant is responsible for writing biopsychosocial histories and developing comprehensive treatment plans. Deerfield Centers for Addictions Treatment (DCAT) our licensed outpatient treatment program has been dedicated to helping individuals suffering with substance abuse and addiction issues.
Services offered include:
Assessments, one-on-one outpatient therapy, group therapy, an intensive outpatient program, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), certified recovery services, and support groups. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE 1.
Bachelor's degree with a CAAC, CADC or CAADC, or at least 1 year of experience in direct patient care is preferred. 2. Master's Degree in health related field preferred. 3. Training and experience in individual, group, and family therapy modalities. 4. Understanding of addiction and recovery; ability to assess addictions and related problems.
