What they do

A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

Job Description

Duties:
  • Conduct group counseling sessions for clients struggling with substance abuse
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic techniques such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychotherapy
  • Stay informed about current research and best practices in addiction counseling
  • Document group attendance, group information, individual notes using ehr program within 24 hours.
  • Send email to other counselors and clinical director with the attendance.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in substance abuse counseling or related field
  • Strong knowledge of addiction counseling theories, techniques, and interventions
  • Experience conducting individual and group therapy sessions
  • Familiarity with case management principles and practices
  • Proficient in using ICD-9 codes for diagnosis and billing purposes
  • Experience working with clients who have co-occurring disorders such as PTSD or other mental health conditions is preferred
Skills:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of ethical guidelines and professional standards in counseling
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations Please note that this job description is not exhaustive, and additional duties may be assigned as needed.
The successful candidate will be passionate about helping individuals overcome substance abuse issues and possess the necessary skills to provide effective counseling services.

Night shift, 5:00-8:00 pm Monday and Thursday evenings Currently we are hiring for 2 nights per week. If you can only do 1 on a regular basis, we encourage you to apply.

Associate (Required)
Job Type:

Certification:
You must have ADT, CSC-AD, or CAC-AD to be a drug counselor in Maryland.
Pay:
We pay $160 for one group conducted and documented in the EHR program.
