Substance Abuse Specialist
- CIT•LAC•CAC Job Summary The Substance Abuse Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive addiction counseling and treatment services to individuals with substance use disorders.
This role involves conducting assessments, developing and updating treatment plans, and delivering both individual and group counseling sessions. The specialist works with adolescents and adults, often managing clients with co-occurring mental health conditions, while maintaining strict confidentiality and cultural sensitivity. The position emphasizes a client-centered approach to facilitate recovery and discharge planning. Duties Provide addiction counseling tailored to the needs of adolescents (three hours twice a week) and adults (three hours three times a week). Conduct thorough assessments to evaluate clients' substance use and co-occurring disorders. Develop individualized treatment plans, updating them every 30 days to reflect progress and changing needs. Deliver individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, relapse prevention, and mental health support. Work with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, ensuring culturally competent care. Manage clinical documentation accurately, including progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries. Facilitate discharge planning to support clients' ongoing recovery efforts post-treatment. Maintain strict adherence to confidentiality protocols and ethical standards throughout all interactions. Skills Proven experience in addiction counseling with a strong understanding of co-occurring disorders. Ability to conduct effective individual and group therapy sessions for adolescents and adults. Excellent clinical documentation skills for maintaining accurate records of client progress. Strong cultural competence to work effectively with diverse populations. Knowledge of assessment tools, treatment planning, and discharge procedures in substance abuse treatment settings. Effective communication skills, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with clients from various backgrounds. Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
