Substance Abuse Counselor

Job Description

Job Title:
Substance Abuse Counselor Duties:
  • Provide individual counseling sessions to clients struggling with substance abuse
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine the appropriate treatment plan for each client
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on the specific needs of each client
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions to address common issues and provide support
  • Utilize evidence-based practices such as motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapy
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to treatment
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records and documentation
  • Provide crisis intervention and support during emergencies or relapse situations
  • Conduct regular evaluations to monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as needed
  • Stay current on the latest research, trends, and best practices in substance abuse counseling
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field
  • Valid licensure or certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (LADC, CADC, etc.)
  • Experience in mental health counseling and substance abuse treatment
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 codes and documentation requirements for insurance purposes
  • Familiarity with child and family counseling techniques
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with clients
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong problem-solving and crisis management skills
  • Compassionate and non-judgmental approach to client care
