A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.
Position Overview Revive Behavioral Health is seeking a skilled and mission-driven Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP or SUDP-T) to join our clinical team. In this role, you will conduct comprehensive assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and deliver both individual and group counseling to adults with substance use disorders. You will apply the ASAM criteria to guide level-of-care determinations and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support each client's path to sustained recovery. Key Responsibilities Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and apply ASAM criteria to determine appropriate levels of care Develop, implement, and maintain individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and the care team Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions using evidence-based modalities for SUD treatment and recovery support Monitor and assess clients for withdrawal symptoms and coordinate appropriate clinical response as needed Educate clients and families on the nature of addiction, recovery principles, and available community resources Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation in compliance with agency, state, and federal requirements Collaborate with community partners, referral sources, and other providers to ensure continuity of care Participate in treatment team meetings, clinical supervision, and ongoing professional development Qualifications Required Active Washington State SUDP credential, or SUDP-T with eligibility for full licensure Clear understanding of alcoholism and drug addiction, including the physiological, psychological, and behavioral dimensions of substance use disorders Knowledge of withdrawal management and detoxification protocols Proficiency in applying ASAM Patient Placement Criteria for treatment planning and level-of-care decisions Ability to conduct thorough clinical assessments and exercise sound, independent clinical judgment Experience providing individual and group counseling in outpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP), or community-based SUD treatment settings Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including individuals in early recovery or navigating complex life circumstances such as housing instability or community reintegration Strong documentation skills and familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered, and culturally humble care Preferred Experience with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder treatment Knowledge of local Seattle/King County community resources and recovery support systems Bilingual or multilingual skills a plus
