Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) Safe Harbor - Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC)
Community Supervision Program Compensation & Benefits:
$800 per week/$20per/hr. 3% matching retirement plan $200 monthly insurance stipend LADAC Supervision & Education provided for those pursuing Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC) credentials Mileage Reimbursement or company car provided About the Role Safe Harbor is seeking a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) to serve as a mentor, advocate, and recovery support for individuals diagnosed with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) or Co-Occurring Disorders (COD) in the Tipton County, TN area. This position works closely with clients under TDOC community supervision to promote recovery, reduce recidivism, and support long-term success. The CPRS will provide one-on-one mentoring, facilitate groups, assist with recovery plans, and connect clients to essential resources such as treatment, housing, employment, and community supports. Responsibilities Provide peer support services for 20-25 clients. Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating personal recovery. Facilitate recovery groups (in-person & virtual) and meet with clients weekly. Attend intakes and coordinate services with TDOC field offices. Assist clients with individualized recovery plans and measurable goals. Link clients to housing, treatment, employment, and peer services. Educate on harm reduction tools (e.g., Naloxone/Narcan) and overdose prevention. Submit weekly progress reports and collaborate with community partners. Maintain CPRS certification and complete required continuing education. Candidate Requirements Eligibility Criteria (TDOC Community Supervision Guidelines): Applicants must not : Be a sex offender Be on the Abuse Registry Have a violent criminal history Have a substance use/DUI conviction within the past 2 years Have an active order of protection Have gang affiliation Be currently on supervision Applicants must : Be in recovery from a diagnosed substance use disorder with 24+ months of sustained sobriety Hold a High School Diploma, GED, or HiSET Be at least 1 year past expiration of last felony/DUI sentence Pass a criminal background check, handgun carry permit check, pre-employment drug screen, and random drug screens
Preferred:
CPRS certification with 2+ years of experience (or eligible to obtain within 90 days) Familiarity with correctional systems and reentry challenges Additional Requirements Active involvement in recovery support (12 Step, Celebrate Recovery, etc.) Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic reporting Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance Willingness to travel and work occasional evenings/weekends About Safe Harbor At Safe Harbor, we provide recovery-centered supportive housing, treatment, life skills, and workforce development to individuals overcoming addiction and rebuilding their lives.
