Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dependable Youth Counselor to join our team dedicated to empowering youth and supporting their families. In this role, you will provide direct care and supervision in a structured, trauma-informed residential setting, helping to create a safe, consistent, and supportive environment. Youth Counselors play a vital role in promoting positive development, resilience, and overall well-being. Responsibilities include mentoring, behavior management, crisis intervention, and supporting daily routines, as well as contributing to individual and group-based therapeutic activities. Key Responsibilities Supervision & Support Provide direct care, supervision, and positive role modeling for youth Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment Build trusting relationships using trauma-informed care principles Behavior Management & Safety Implement behavior plans and provide appropriate limit setting Respond to crises using therapeutic, trauma-informed techniques Conduct safety checks, room checks, and participate in emergency drills Complete suicide risk assessments and safety planning as needed Daily Living & Skill Development Support youth with daily routines, hygiene, and life skills Supervise meals, homework, and recreational activities Assist with independent living and vocational skill development Program Operations Transport youth to school, court, appointments, and activities Plan and facilitate structured daily activities and groups Maintain cleanliness and organization of the living environment Health & Medication Support Monitor youth health and wellness Administer medications (QMAP certification required or willingness to obtain) Document and communicate health concerns with medical staff Documentation & Communication Complete daily logs, incident reports, and youth records accurately Communicate effectively with team members, families, and external partners Participate in team meetings Qualification Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED required Must be at least 21 years of age (preferred/required depending on program) Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Ability to pass background checks, including: Criminal history (FBI/CBI fingerprinting) Child abuse and neglect registry check Preferred Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Criminal Justice, or Behavioral Sciences) Previous experience working with youth, especially in residential, behavioral health, or child welfare settings Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and behavior management techniques Skills & Competencies Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries with youth Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-stress situations Team-oriented with strong collaboration skills Organizational and documentation skills Certifications ( Preferred not required ) QMAP (Qualified Medication Administration Personnel) First Aid and CPR Additional Requirements Physical ability to engage in active supervision (standing, walking, participating in activities) Commitment to a trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach to care Work Environment Residential treatment setting May include evenings, weekends, and holidays Active role requiring standing, walking, and engagement in activities Apply today to make a meaningful difference in the lives of youth.
