AREACH AREACH
provides mental strengthening for youth (ages 8-24) using brain education and innovative tools (EEG neurofeedback, VR-based calming, reflective writing, mindfulness). We partner with schools and community organizations to build self-awareness, self-regulation, focus, and overall well-being. Role Summary The AREACH Counselor—also known as a Brain Trainer—builds authentic relationships with youth and coaches them through evidence-based activities (neurofeedback, VR, writing, mindfulness) using a connect-first, coach-with-purpose approach. You'll follow structured guides/lesson plans, track progress in standardized notes, and collaborate with site teams to ensure measurable gains in mood, self-awareness, self-regulation, and engagement. What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities) Facilitate small-group and 1:1 sessions that prioritize connection and student voice before introducing tools/techniques. Coach youth through EEG neurofeedback focus/relaxation exercises (e.g., attention games) using supportive, plain-language "why & benefit" prompts. Guide brief VR calming experiences (time-limited) and reflective writing/mindfulness coloring activities. Follow AREACH guides and lesson plans with high fidelity; prepare rooms/devices and keep sessions on pace. Use open-ended questions, active listening, culturally responsive practices, and de-escalation as needed. Document each session using
SOAP/DAP/BIRP
formats; set clear next-session "Plan" actions; maintain confidentiality. Monitor and report progress in core domains (mood, self-awareness, self-regulation, focus/engagement); adjust plans when progress stalls. Partner with school staff and families; escalate safety concerns per protocol (e.g., suicidality, abuse, imminent harm). Participate in training, coaching, observations, and data reviews; contribute to a positive, learning-oriented team culture. Qualifications Required 1+ years working with youth (8-24) in education, counseling, youth development, or mental/behavioral health settings. Demonstrated skill in building trust and rapport with diverse youth and families. Comfort facilitating tech-enabled activities (we'll train you on specific tools). Strong written documentation; able to use structured note formats and track goals/outcomes. Reliable, punctual, organized; able to manage small groups and maintain calm, supportive presence. High school diploma or equivalent. Currently a senior in college studying for a Bachelor's in psychology, social work, counseling. Preferred Experience with mindfulness, or CBT-informed youth programming. Experience in schools or community mental health; bi/multilingual a plus. Familiarity with mandated reporting and confidentiality standards.

Travel between local partner sites; occasional virtual facilitation. This role requires standing, light equipment setup, and consistent device use. Training & Growth Paid onboarding and refreshers on AREACH methods (EEG neurofeedback, VR calming, documentation standards). Ongoing observations, coaching, and professional learning pathways. Performance Expectations (KPIs) High-quality session delivery (fidelity checks). Timely, objective documentation with clear "Plan" actions. Demonstrated member progress across target domains (e.g., self-regulation, focus, engagement). Strong attendance, punctuality, and stakeholder satisfaction. Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly pay commensurate with experience; $20-$30.
