TE is a critically conscious youth development organization that believes that young people are critical assets to creating positive change in their own lives and their communities. Through a unique asset-based youth organizing program implemented in Boston and Somerville, MA, and Rochester, NY, TE employs youth ages 14-21 to identify the most pressing issues in their community and develop a strategy to address those issues. Using TE's interactive model, the project builds the leadership skills of youth and trains them to do the planning and problem solving necessary to implement their strategic plans and make real, meaningful changes in their communities. Based in Somerville, the Beyond TE Manager will create and manage a process of helping Boston and Somerville youth (ages 14-24) associated with Teen Empowerment to determine short and long term life and career goals and to create and execute a plan to achieve those goals. The Beyond TE Manager will work with the TE Program Directors and Coordinators to develop and implement comprehensive referral systems and provide hands-on navigation assistance to youth associated with TE.They also meet one-on-one with youth to help them find solutions to barriers impeding their progress and organize informational sessions on various topics for larger groups of youth. This new position increases TE's capacity to connect youth with opportunities for further growth and enhances our ability to monitor and support youths' personal life and career goals, while assisting with basic needs, mental and physical health, and academic achievement.

Responsibilities include:

Develop a comprehensive strategy for youth to set goals, create a plan to achieve those goals, and address any obstacles. Work with TE Program Coordinators to identify youth needing immediate assistance Use TE's tools and systems for assessing, tracking, following up on the progress of individual youth. Be responsible for some job and educational counseling and coaching. Develop/maintain a network of reliable, culturally responsive service partners and resources to which youth (and their families) can be referred for basic needs. Coordinate with community partners on external referrals to ensure a smooth transition into supplemental services. Work in collaboration with program staff on workshops for youth, including creating a year-long curriculum and recruiting workshop presenters. Contribute to reports on a quarterly basis. Assistance with administrative work, such as report writing, data tracking, etc. is required. Learn and understand TE Model Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Counseling, Education, or related field or equivalent experience. Master's degree is a plus. At least 5 years of demonstrated youth development and case management, social work and/or counseling experience. A sophisticated understanding of the socio-economic, educational, and relational challenges facing urban communities and how racism, discrimination, and oppression directly and indirectly impact these challenges. Commitment to Teen Empowerment's mission and Model and willingness to learn and use TE's approach to group facilitation and behavior management. A commitment and passion for positive youth development approaches, community engagement strategies, and youth issues. Willingness to meet with youth in neighborhood settings, homes, schools and other community gathering places. Excellent written and oral communication with ability to adapt communication style for various audiences. Excellent interpersonal and counseling skills. Self-motivated, able to work independently and take initiative and also to participate productively in a team and with diverse community stakeholders Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple responsibilities. Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines. Strong computer skills required including but not limited to
