TE is a critically conscious youth development organization that believes that young people are critical assets to creating positive change in their own lives and their communities. Through a unique asset-based youth organizing program implemented in Boston and Somerville, MA, and Rochester, NY, TE employs youth ages 14-21 to identify the most pressing issues in their community and develop a strategy to address those issues. Using TE's interactive model, the project builds the leadership skills of youth and trains them to do the planning and problem solving necessary to implement their strategic plans and make real, meaningful changes in their communities. Based in Somerville, the Beyond TE Manager will create and manage a process of helping Boston and Somerville youth (ages 14-24) associated with Teen Empowerment to determine short and long term life and career goals and to create and execute a plan to achieve those goals. The Beyond TE Manager will work with the TE Program Directors and Coordinators to develop and implement comprehensive referral systems and provide hands-on navigation assistance to youth associated with TE.They also meet one-on-one with youth to help them find solutions to barriers impeding their progress and organize informational sessions on various topics for larger groups of youth. This new position increases TE's capacity to connect youth with opportunities for further growth and enhances our ability to monitor and support youths' personal life and career goals, while assisting with basic needs, mental and physical health, and academic achievement.
