Hope Ignites Baltimore is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and mission‑driven Youth Specialist to mentor and support our academically capable and motivated youth who are working toward becoming first‑generation college students. Why This Role Matters As a Youth Specialist, you'll be a steady, encouraging presence in the lives of our Scholars (ages 10-17) living in one of our Residential Homes. You'll help create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where young people can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. This is more than a job. It's an opportunity to mentor youth, build lasting relationships, and gain valuable experience in education, social work, counseling, or related fields. Key Responsibilities Create a structured daily schedule to support Scholars' academic and extracurricular success. Provide homework assistance and tutoring to help Scholars excel in school. Serve as a positive role model, teaching social and daily living skills. Coordinate communication with Scholars' families. Identify and report any safety concerns related to the home. Transport Scholars to and from school and activities. Plan meals, including creating weekly menus, food shopping, and meal prep. Establish and maintain a chore schedule and assist with light housekeeping. Monitor the emotional and physical well-being of Scholars, raising concerns when necessary. Contribute to curriculum planning and weekend enrichment activities. Work with volunteers and offer support during planned activities. Qualifications Bachelor's degree (preferred) or 2+ years of experience working with adolescents Strong communication and organizational skills Valid driver's license with clean driving record (3+ years) CPR/First Aid certification (provided upon hire) Ability to pass required screenings (physical, drug test, TB test, background checks) Working Conditions The position is in-person and requires active engagement with youth in a residential setting. Work schedule is Monday-Friday from 2pm-10pm. Work environment may include both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to varying weather conditions during activities or outings. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and light lifting (up to 25 lbs.) required. Requires the ability to model and maintain appropriate behavior and respond effectively in high-energy or crisis situations. Must be able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with sensitive youth information. Regular interaction with youth, staff, volunteers, and community partners in a team-oriented environment. Use of computer, phone, and other office equipment for documentation and communication. Transportation of youth in agency vehicles will be required. Growth & Compensation There is room to grow at Hope Ignites Baltimore.
