Job Description
The YMCA is seeking a Street Hockey Trainer to lead engaging, skill-based programs that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. In this role, you will plan and instruct age-appropriate street hockey sessions, teaching fundamentals, rules, and sportsmanship while ensuring a safe, inclusive environment. You will supervise participants, manage equipment and playing areas, and adapt activities for various ages and abilities. The Trainer models YMCA core values, communicates with families and staff, and supports special events, gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit, community-focused youth sports. Responsibilities Plan and lead age-appropriate street hockey classes and clinics for youth participants Teach fundamental street hockey skills, rules, and sportsmanship in a safe, supportive environment Set up, inspect, and safely manage street hockey equipment and play areas Supervise participants, maintaining positive behavior and YMCA safety standards at all times Adapt drills and activities for varying ages, skill levels, and abilities to promote inclusion Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and YMCA staff about participant progress and schedules Model YMCA core values and foster teamwork, respect, and confidence among youth Monitor participant attendance and maintain accurate program records and reports Support program promotion, special events, and community outreach related to youth sports Complete required YMCA trainings, certifications, and ongoing professional development Required Skills Street hockey or ice hockey fundamentals Youth coaching and instruction Sports safety and risk management Group supervision and behavior management Lesson and practice planning Verbal communication with youth and parents Basic record keeping and attendance tracking Conflict resolution in youth settings Inclusion and adaptation for varied abilities Basic first aid and emergency response
